I see lots of posting with 'corner property' or 'corner lot' in the description and it made me wonder if these are more desirable. DH and I were adamant that we did not want a corner house...but fell in love with ours and said we could 'live' with it being on the corner!!

Re: Are corner homes more desirable?
Some people like corner properties because they sometimes have bigger yards, however the taxes are almost always much higher.....

I actually prefer the property to NOT be on a corner.

in the case of my inlaws house- they have a bigger lot- not sure if the taxes are higher- but I think there taxes are grandfathered in to the rates they were in the 80's b/c of something that happened in Setuaket

Yeah we did too!! We wanted the a cul-de-sac, but because we're in the beginning of a cul-de-sac anyway we 'settled'. Taxes are the same, but we did get the biggest lot on the block. How funny that we were dead set against corner lots and we ended up in one by fate!!

gina's right. obviously the bigger the property the higher the taxes. but as a realtor, when i show a corner property i sell it as having more parking spaces available!

Well, parking is NOT a problem in Georgia!!
Thanks for your responses!! The house is the same size as all the ones in my subdivision (except the ranches)...since it`s the 'estates'. But the lot is the biggest one...and we had no idea until we had our land surveyed. Blessing without knowing.
Thanks again!

The only problem I have found is that most of the property is in the front and the back tends to be small...

Well, we got really lucky in that our lot is pretty well laid out. The house is built pretty much in the middle so we have a front lawn, a right sie lawn (too much if you ask me!) and tons more in the back. Enough for a full size basketball court and then some! We really are blessed and we're grateful. Although we got scared sh!tless when the surveyor finished and we saw all the flags on our lot. We had no idea it was so damn large...we 'wanted' 1/2 acre, but we didn't know what that meant in 'land' and it means a LOT of $$...a lot of mowing...and a lot of landscaping!!

Re: Are corner homes more desirable?
We have a corner house and our yard is bigger than the other houses around. I also like the fact that we don't have a neighboor on one side. I would not have a house on a busy intersection corner though.

Re: Are corner homes more desirable?
most of the corner houses I kept seeing had no backyard property( like 10 feet ). and dh wanted a private backyard for future kids. I guess is depends on the the house but I would think a corner home would be more of an informative thing rather than more desirable.

Corner home's are terrible. My parents are having so much trouble putting up a fence because its on a corner property and they have no privacy!

I think they usually have more property, but I'm w/you Sasha. I would not want to live on a corner (more passing traffic). I like QUIET!
