Are Dr. Brown's bottles really that much better than the Playtex Nursers?
Sarah has really bad gas, which is making her colicky (at least that's what the doctor said today) She cries for 2-3 hours each afternoon and is passing gas the whole time. I feel horrible, she is just miserable, and just when I find a position that seems to calm her down, the next day it doesn't work.
I'm thinking maybe it's her bottle that's causing so much gas, since she shows no other signs of not tolerating her formula. She rarely spits up and doesn't have a rash or anything. We use the Playtex nursers with the drop in liners. I push the excess air out, but maybe it's still got a fair amount of air in there? Are the Dr. Brown's bottles really that much better at reducing gas?
TIA!

I'm not sure about the gas factor but I found them to be clumsy and leaked. Not that the nursers don't either.

We switched Cole from the Dr Brown to the playtex nursers, and its helped a lot. We also add 2-3 drops of Mylicon to his formula. I think its really a trial and error thing, but its so so sad to see them gassy.

I didn't like those bottles. I didn't notice any difference between those and the Avent bottles except that they were harder to clean. If your baby is still crying and uncomfortable after trying the new bottles and nothing seems to help, it COULD be the formula. My daughter had a problem with her milk based formula. She would kick up her legs in pain because she was so gassy and couldn't burp at all on that formula.

When I registered, I just had to get the ADvent bottles..they looked so nice. My son had such bad gas, we switched to Dr Brown's (another cute looking bottle, yet a pain to clean)...My mother said to use The Playtex nurser...and being stubborn as I am I didn't want to agree w/ her..That is until my son cried for 4 straight hours. I started the playtex bottles the next day and never had to touch a bottle of Mylicon drops again..I was amazed. I reccommend them...Good luck

We originally used the evenflo bottles that I pumped into but Kiera was getting such bad gas that we switched. We tried the Dr. Brown bottles and the playtex nursers. I did not like the Dr. Brown bottles. She still got gas with them. We use the Playtex nursers and since we started them we have not used the Mylicon drops.
The woman at BRU told me that each baby is different and what works for one baby may not work for another. And I do believe her because my friend who has twins uses different bottles for them. One needed the Dr. Brown bottles. The other one get the least gas with Evenflo.

My friend raves about them. He says it's the only thing that settled their colicky baby.

For those who used/are using Playtex Nursers - did you use the preformed liners or the soft ones? We have been using the preformed ones, but I'm going to try the soft ones once I finish this box up. I thinking maybe I'll be able to get the air to stay out of the soft ones better? It seems like sometimes I have to burp the preformed ones again when I take it out of the fridge.

We use the preformed ones. I heat up the bottle, then push all of the air out. If you push it out before you put it in the fridge you'll just have to push it out again because the air gets back in.
Another trick, the fuller the bottle the easier it is to push. How many ounces are you doing at each feeding? And which bottle are you using, 4 or 8 ounces?

We're using the 4 oz bottles, and she's eating 4 oz. Once in a while she wants a little more, so I'll make a new one with 1 oz in it, but that's pretty rare right now.
The gas drops help sometimes, but they don't seem to work all the time.
Thanks - I guess I'll have to try out a few other bottles to see if they help.

I used the Playtex nursers in the beginning but I found them to give my dd horrible gas, I also hated the Avents-my dd wouldn't latch onto the longer nipple and they leaked alot so we tried Dr.Browns and they were a godsend-seriously. My daughter has had hardly any gas and they also helped alot with her reflux.

My SIL swears by the Dr Brown's bottles. My nephew, who is now 3, was only 'calm' when they used them. Otherwise he would cry non-stop.
