So I'm getting my list ready to send to Inkspun to do the computer calligraphy on my invites... and I know that you are 'supposed to' address inner envelopes as well but whats the point of the inner envelope? To protect the invite?
Would it be terrible if I just didn't use them? Or would it be better to use them and just not have anything printed on thm?
Sorry, I'm not good at ettiquette stuff!!

Re: Are Inner Envelopes really neccessary???
I used them but didnt haave them printed. I figured it was an easy way for ppl to keep everything together, b/c they probably rip the outer envelope when they open it.

I used them. My aunt did our calligraphy and she adressed everyone again on the inner envelope and included the kids when it applied.

Re: Are Inner Envelopes really neccessary???
my suggestion is to use them, if your invitation comes with them.
you can't save trees that have already been turned into paper.
did you get liners in the envelopes? if you did, they'd be on the inner envelope ... not the outer.
also, when an invitation comes with the 2 envelopes, it is sized to fit into the inner. if you don't use the inner, there will be extra space in the envelope that the inner would have taken up.
you don't have to get them printed ...

I didn't use them. The invitation place told me that now-a-days a lot of people really aren't using them.

not necessary but you can always use envelope and not print on it...

Re: Are Inner Envelopes really neccessary???
They are totally unnecessary, but could come in handy for keeping the invite around. I didn't have calligraphy done on them, but I handwrote first names on them. This was a good way to include 'and guest' and any kids' names without having to print it on the outer.

I'd use them! I did.... I agree that they protect the invitations as they travel across the US / world. They add an hint of elegance and keep everything together. It's up to you whether to print on them or not. I did- but I find it only necessary if you are inviting anyone with an & Guest- I always thought it nicer to print that on the inside and not on the outside. Or if you have someone that is being mailed an invite and does not live with their fiance/ SO I'd address the outer envelope to that person and on the inner envelope add the fiance/ SO name too. HTH

Re: Are Inner Envelopes really neccessary???
I actually just assembled my invites last nite. Yes, we did use them, and yes, we did address them to 'mr & Mrs John Smith, or Mr. John Smith & Guest.' I didnt put 'and guest' on the outside envelope. It's optional, but I kinda liked the way it looked, just a bit neater and more organized.
