Re: Are odwalla bars good for health? NM
I sure as heck hope they are b/c my DH LOVES them - he's been ordering them from their website since we left California. Do you know of a NY store where we can buy them locally? It would be so much easier....

Claud - Did you check their website to see info on where they sell? Are these energy bars? I never heard of them. My pilates instructor told me some of them are really bad for you. There are some that are supposed to be good though. Balance is supposedly a good one and Luna.

Re: Are odwalla bars good for health? NM
Cindy, Odwalla bars are not energy bars...they are food bars that are made with all organic ingredients....the company also makes juices and smoothies....they are more widely known on the West Coast and in western regions...they are located in Half Moon Bay, CA...but are supposed expanding their distribution soon. They don't sell their products on the East coast yet b/c they don't use preservatives to keep the food fresh longer....so, b/c there's not a long shelf-life, they can only distribute and sell locally for now.

Wow, sounds interesting. I guess as soon as they do come that they will be in Health Food Stores.

I think I read somewhere that Odwalla is owned by Coca-Cola. So I'd question their healthiness...

You must have Odwalla confused with some other company, b/c this is a false statement. I don't see how you can call products that are almost 100% organic 'questionable' in terms of healthiness.

Claud, I think Freshdirect sells them and http://www.thebetterhealthstore.com.They have to be sold somewhere in NYC physically b/c my work cafeteria sells them and I doubt they would purchase stuff online.

From Hoovers.com (business industry website):
The company's juice beverages, known for their colorful packaging, carry equally colorful names, including C Monster, Femme Vitale, Mo' Beta, Mango Tango, Summertime Lime, Superfood, and Viva Las Veggies. Odwalla also makes spring water, nutritional bars, and soy-based drinks, including organic soy milk. Coke purchased Odwalla in December 2001 and made it part of Coca-Cola North America.
ETA: I’m assuming that Coke has not made any modifications on the Odwalla products, but aside from that I have read in several nutrition publications, and seen on news reports on TV, that nutrition bars overall are high in calories and sugars and do not always promote weight loss…

Well, thanks for clarifying re: Coke owning them, b/c their website actually says NOTHING about that.
However, no one on this thread said anything about the products promoting weight loss, so I think that's why your feedback wasn't useful....the original question was are they good for your health. IMO, they are fine - in moderation - just like anything else. My hubby loves to carry them with him if he's out for an active day, b/c eating one of those is better than a fast food burger (in terms of balanced nutrition).

I just figured if this was posted on the 'Slim Down' board it might have had something to do with weight loss....

Re: Are odwalla bars good for health? NM
I didnt mean to start a controversy...I am not asking if they're good for weight loss, I just want to make sure that they're not BAD (as in too high in fat, sugar, etc).
Just b/c Coke owns them, doesn't make them bad, it just provides them with a better distribution channel. I doubt Coke would start tinkering with the recipes of a successful product and make it less healthy.
I posted this question on the Slim Down board b/c I felt this is the most relevant board for it (i.e. nutrition product).

Re: Are odwalla bars good for health? NM
I’m sorry, I wasn’t trying to be argumentative. I just wanted to bring up the point about them being owned by Coke (for whatever it’s worth). The bars don’t seem unhealthy per se, but as with everything, moderation is the key. Just remember, organic sugar is still sugar.
Just my two cents…didn’t mean to cause any trouble…
