Are people going to smoke at my outdoor CH?

Are people going to smoke at my outdoor CH?

Provided it is above 65 degrees & not raining, or cocktail hour is outside on a patio , under a tent. When I saw the hall, the patio was covered in snow, so it was hard to see how big it is, but I think it is kinda small.I'm worry my friend will be smoking while people are trying to eat.

Noone in our families smoke, but our friends do.
And during the reception, if they want to smoke, they can go outside, but during the CH the outside area is where we will be sitting.

I don't think there will be ashtrays out, but How do I make sure they don't stand right there & smoke?

Hmmm I am thinking they might but maybe the hall can put the ashtrays in another area further away from the food and dining area?

give the banquet manager special instructions as to where you want these people to smoke. if he/she 'catches' them smoking elsewhere, he/she can politely tell them 'the bride and groom wish that smoking not take place here, but rather over there...'

no one in my family smokes...
the place has a few ashtrays when you walk in - one the free standing kind
I was thinking of asking them not to put that out b/c I think it's trashy plus one screw on the wall...I was thinking of having the florist putting like ivy and a pillar candle in it...wonder if they will do that!
I'll ask

I smoke and even if you are outside but under a tent, I would not smoke b/c you really are not completely in open air.(aside from the fact the people are eating and that is rude) .I think most people would step outside the tent to smoke.

Well, I hope all of our smokers are as considerate as you.
I know my old roomate is, & she usually won't smoke if there aren't ash trays, & even in my 5th floor apt, when I say its ok in the kitchen, by the window, she goes downstairs.

I'm just not sure if there really is any place for them so stand & not be right there. I guess, in the parking lot? its right next to the patio, on the other side of some bushes. Its over 5 months away, It just popped into my head. I'll ask my Banquet manager when we finalize things, how the best way to work it is.

I am not allowing ashtrays and am considering a few small sings saying (NO SMOKING PLEASE)

Waiters will be told to direct smokers to another area.

Yes - it is less bothersome to be near a smoker outside. However, if you are right near that person (or even downwind) - you do smell it. It's not always possible to move.

I'm really hoping people oblige but you never know. People can be rude and pushy so we'll see.

If it is important to you (as it is to me) put up small signs and warn the wait staff that this is VERY important to you.

I agree with stacey.. I am a smoker and never smoke where people are eating, heck I dont like smoke near me when I am eating, so I know how it feels,

Maybe you could mention to your friends, you'd prefer if they smoke, away from the tent area..
