Are there any brides like me that are 'Its about time he proposed'
I thought of this while making breakfast and then the 'how long are you engaged' thread reminded me.
I have been with FH for over 6 years and we have been living together for over 4. It was like pulling teeth to get the proposal. Anyone else?
And even though it is all water under the bridge, I feel that for all that time I knew he was the one, why didn't he feel the same way? I still feel scarred from that.
BTW I am an emotional wreck today. My dress came in 4 months early and it hit me that this is REAL!
Ok that's my semi-vent for the day.

Don't think that he didn't know you are 'the one'! You are the one!! Maybe he was waiting to save $$? I know my FH couldn't propose earlier bc of financial reasons, but I know he knew I was the one!!

DH & I were together for 6 years before we got engaged. And the months leading up to the engagement, I was like ... IS THIS EVER GONNA HAPPEN?? I'm not getting any younger!!
I will tell you since we've been married he has said to many people, he regrets not doing it sooner.

FI wanted to sooner, but he was waiting for me to graduate college...and get a new job...and although I wished he did it sooner, he had the right time when i look back...

It was a little backwards for me... he was ready first and it took me about 1 year or so longer to come around... we had been dating about 3 years when he proposed... but he always says it would've been alot sooner (like the first year) if it wasn't for me. But I was still a baby... only in my very early twenties...

Thank you. For the last year it was a money thing even though I said that a ring didnt matter. You made me feel better though.

I was in the same situation. At the time we were dating for 5 and a half years, living together and I had been ready for at least 2 years prior. Although I was excited beypnd belief when it did happen, at little voice inside me was like 'its about time'. He wanted to make sure he was secure with his job, money, etc. before making the commitment. He was emotionally ready, but wanted to bring something to the marriage. So to make a long story short, I know how you feel.

By no means did I mean anyone's boob, I mean FH/DH, except my own. He had a good job, bought the house he grew up in from his mom, etc & so on ... I think he was just not ready until he was ready - a self proclaimed commitment-phobe, we spent many a year having the sh!t or get off the pot argument. One day he was just ready.

We were together over 7 1/2 years before we got engaged... part of it was our age, part of it was money and part of it was that he just wasn't ready...

Be Glad you're getting married. Include your live in in plans and make it an adventure. You already know you can get along...well, because you live together...don't let the piece of paper scare you (been there...done that and destroyed the best relationship I ever had).

I used to raise my hand up like it was a helum baloon and say 'i'm floating away! i wish I had something to weight me down.'
Whenhe propoed, the first thing I said (i was in shock) was 'I thought you'd never ask'
it really wasn't like pulling teeth though, we were just dating a long time..however, we started dating at 16, and I'm only the second of my frineds to get engaged.

I've been w/ FH for about 5 and 1/2 years and knew he was the one after about 2 years. He's 2 years younger than me, so i tried to be patience and wait for him to be ready. It was a long road, and I almost ended the relationship a couple of times because I didn't understand why he didn't want to get married.
But then, it finally happened and I have to say that it was worth the wait. FH knew I was the one all along, but, like many guys, was afraid of making the big decision to propose, especially at such a young age. (He was 25 when we got engaged).
I'm sure your FH knew all along in his heart but had to get his mind to understand that you were the woman he was to spend the rest of his life with. Try to get over the whole thing about him making you wait. The important thing is you are now planning your lives together!

I would have married him after six months. I knew he was the one within a few weeks. I wanted to be engaged after a year but it took 2 1/2. I'm older than him and he was still in school.

It hink it's definately $$$ too... God bless them, but they have to make everything so special, and that is so sweet. I know My FI was SO NERVOUS, he had the ring in his truck for a month before he actually did it.. everyone knew but me, and the4y were all like 'what is going on?? Crystal hasn't called?? Did he do it??.. LOL... so I think they are just nervous, scared,(in a good way), and saving money.. I feel bad now, for thinking that FI didn't want to marry me, because he knew all along, he just couldn't do it as soon as he wanted too. I never pushed FI, but I did wonder..
