There is the cop next door program and the teacher next door program, but they are involved and I have to say and there were not that many houses on LI that met the criteria

Sorry it didn't work out. When I first found that I was excited for about 5 minutes. I remember that I had seen a report about a teacher that got a home in CI for next to nothing she had to agree to live there for a certain amount of time and to teach in CI also. The one positive thing that I can tell you is that after you have tenure, mortage companies love you!

there is a government program for first time buyers - SONYMA....low interest rates and they pay for the closing costs....but you have to make under a certain amount of money and the place you're buying has to be under a certain amount of money.
if you can do it - it's definitely worth the extra time and paperwork..we saved about $4000 on clising costs and our interest rate is 4.25.....and when we purchased, the average was around 6%

there arent many program available to cops at least nypd unless you want to live in the 5 boroughs. i know that if your husband isnt nypd there are some federal programs available also but you have to live in areas that may not be as great as others
