Are there any nurses on this board?

The reason why I'm asking is because DH and I are moving back to LI and I have to find a new job. I know nothing about LI hospitals and would like some inside information if possible. Does anyone know what are the currently salaries on the LI ? Are most of the hospitals union o r nonunion. If anyone is uncomfortable about posting this information on the board , you can also FM me.

Thanks
Florence

I'm an occupational therapist but as far as job hunting on the island:There's Good Samaritan Hospital, Soutside Hospital, Huntington Hospital, St. Charels, Brunswick (not a favorite) and North Shore University Hospital and Stonybrook. I'm not sure of salaries but do you only want to work for a hospital?? How about a skilled nursing facility?? I believe Good Sam and St Charles are union(1199). Hope that helps.

One of my friends just finished her BS in nursing and got a job working in the neonatal unit at Stony Brook hospital for 60,000...She took the night shifts to make more money--I think it would have been 55,000 for days or something...It was a weird schedule, 3 or 4 days on for 12 hours, then 3 or 4 days off (maybe that's what nursing schedules are always like?)....good luck!

What area of nursing are you in? I can give you more info based on what I have heard about different areas in different hospitals. I wouldnt go to Stonybrook though, because they are paying a LOT less than what other area hospitals are paying. My friend who I graduated with last year just quit there because her salary there compared to others that are working elsewhere on LI is like over $5000 less than us. Feel free to FM me if you would like to discuss more!

ETA: My friend just left a pediatric position at stonybrook, and she told me that in the NICU there most of the nurses left and they are dangerously short staffed. I dont know if they have hired more people since she left a month ago, but for the sake of the nurses there, I hope so!
