Re: Are Vendors cheaper?
Theresa, I researched this quite a bit, and for a lot of vendors Queens/Brooklyn is cheaper than Long Island. I found this especially with flowers, bands, and photography. Although, the band thing is a little different. I actually booked mine out of Connecticut...the price difference is amazing, and they are fantastic.
The florists I have met with, the ones in Brooklyn are substantially cheaper than those on Long Island, same for the photographers. Alot of people will say that a good deal of the Brooklyn/Queens vendors aren't up with the times, they are more '80's' but a little searching found that this is very very wrong....
I would do a lot of comparision shopping if I were you, cover all your bases, and make informed decisions!

Re: Are Vendors cheaper?
Our band is The Funkestra. www.funkestra.com. Don't go by the website though, it really doesn't do them justice at all. They showcase all over Connecticut. If you sign up on their site they'll send you dates. They also don't charge travel fees to come to Queens/Long Island.
Like Shamma and Liz said, check out Flower Den in Sheepshead Bay. I have also been to Shannon Flowers on Ft. Hamilton Parkway and 33rd Street. I think I am going to use them...great work!! I've also heard great things about Dyker Flortists.

Re: Are Vendors cheaper?
Most of vendors in Bklyn/Queens are cheaper BUT the quality suffers...
I live in Brooklyn so Bklyn/Queens vendors would have been a lot easier. I didnt find a single photographer in Brooklyn that I would even consider so we moved our search in LI and Manhattan. LI is generally cheaper than Manhattan.
There are some great florists in Brooklyn. In general, the nicer the neighborhood, the more creative the designer, the more expensive the flowers. So its relative to those factors.
I didnt do a full search on bands in Bklyn/Queens but the ones that I found were about the same price. Just like the ones in LI, quality varies.
