I never used to be ... I never worried myself about how I felt, never went to a doctor, and would brush off my aches and pains.
But I realize that the older I get, I am always convinced that something is 'wrong' with me. This only started this past year. I feel like I am constantly going to the doctor. Yup, I'm a nut case!
Ahhhhhh... I'm turning into my mother!!

Re: Are you a hypochondriac?
This is sooo weird that you asked this b/c I have started to notice this about myself over the past 1-2 years too! Anytime I have something minimally wrong with me (a headache or something), I am convinced it is something horrible (like a brain tumor). I guess as every year goes by, I begin to realize that I am not immortal or something.

Re: Are you a hypochondriac?
Your not a nutcase. I started going to the doctor for every little thing after I broke my jaw. I wanted to make sure I didn't have any problems relating to the carbon monoxide poisioning I had which caused me to fall and break my jaw. But I didn't have to pay for medical then. Now I do so I still go to the doctor but only if I am in pain or it is a annual thing.

Are you my long lost twin? you just describe ME to a tee. I started becoming consumed with being sick back in June 2003 .. before then I would never get sick and always felt good. But then I started getting excruciating headaches , where I couldn't think and couldn't sleep.. so I was convinced I was dying and had a brain tumor also. Suffered for months like that and was finally diagnosed with migraines.. but I wasn't satisfied with this answer until they ran every test on me and ruled out everything else. Every since I still worry that they misdiagnosed me. I've had a really bad bout the past few weeks with headaches, extreme dizziness and lightheadness, and I just feel weird.. so again I am thinking the worst.
Then the other day I started getting strange chest pains and was convinced it was my heart (runs in my family) It took DH calming me down to make me realize I must have just pulled a muscle or had some bad heartburn.
I am such a mess

Re: Are you a hypochondriac?
I dont think I am but DH says I am (half-jokingly. I hope)
I say my stomach hurts, maybe it's the crohn's acting up (I *am* diagnosed w/ it so that's a legitimate thing to say)
My wrists sometimes ache so I think I might have carpel tunnel syndrome
My knees sometimes ache so I might have osteoarthritis (my dad has it)
But I do'nt go to the dr. all the time about it. I can't afford to take the time off of work!
My family always makes me feel like I am one. But it turns out that all my symptoms seem to be related to Hypogylcemia. It's taken 10 years to finally get a doctor to diagnose this! While searching for the what was wrong, they also found a leaky valve/heart murmur. So no, I am not a hypochondriac but after brain scans/echos/monitors/bloodwork/doplar scans/tilt table tests/EKGs etc, I feel like one.

How did they find out you had a leaky valve/heart murmur??? I will occasionally have random chest pains and I have always thought it could be a heart murmur....(even tho I have no idea what that would feel like)

I know what you mean, and you have proven my point about why I hate being called a hypochondriac. Like myself, you kept searching for answers until you were correctly diagnosed! My family always makes me feel like some sort of nut , but I don't think I am... I just want to feel better and take charge of my health. It gets very discouraging when you constantly hear 'you are fine' but you just KNOW something 'isn't right'
Constant pain or feeling 'blah' just stinks and I refuse to give up so easily or be told 'its just in my head' When I feel as though there are legitimate things wrong with me and I feel as though I must keep going from doctor to doctor until I find relief. I am on the internet constantly trying to figure out what I should explore next.. therein lies the reason that everyone thinks i'm nutty
In your case, I am very happy to hear that they finally diagnosed you correctly -- it must be such a relief!!

Re: Are you a hypochondriac?
Yes, when I was little I had stomach aches all the time, when I went to the doctor, he said my belly was Filled w/ bubbles b/c of all my nerves!!!!
You dont even know the weirdest, craziest things I do....its not normal....but let me begin:
Im sure most of you do this: (maybe not)
**Open the bathroom door w/ a paper towel and throw it on the floor all in one swing
**Use a wet wipe or I will put a plastic bag for the vegetables on the handle at the supermarket so I dont have to touch it
**If I have a headache or even a chest pain I am Terrified to go to sleep, b/c I am afraid Ill never wake up, b/c of course its def. a heart attach or aneurism.
I hate it.......sometimes this runs my life! And I can make everyone crazy from it!

And in a strange way, I am glad to hear I'm not the only one who does this also.. I always tell DH I love him b/f I go to sleep when I'm sick, becuase I never know what'll happen in my sleep ... The past few days when my headaches have been so bad, I have been keeping myself awake because I'm SCARED to go to sleeP! I know its so bad to be like this.. I think I read too many articles sometimes and I figure if it could happen to someone else, it could happen to me also...

Yeah, nope, definitely not alone. May our significant others continue to have the patience to deal w/ it and laugh at us if they have to?
Yes, I just gave up after a while. I have been fainting since I was 18...
When I got pregnant, a certain family member passed a comment how she was sure I woudl be so deathly ill beacsue I am alllllways sick.... When they finally diagnosed something, I was thrilled....
