Are you doing the unity candle ceremony?

Are you doing the unity candle ceremony?

Are you having your mothers light candles first?

Where do you get those candle stands?

If I understand correctly, the mothers light these candles. Then the bride and groom light their candles from their mother's candles and light the unity candle.

Please tell me if this is accurate.

Yes that is correct.

I haven't purchased mine yet but I have seen them on quite a few websites. You can try the Knot, Exclusively Weddings and Jean M.

We are going to have the tapers already lit and then FH and I will just light the unity candle together.

I see the normal unity candle set but not the larger stands that I've seen for the mothers. I have no idea what they are called. I've just seen them at weddings.

There should be 5 candles total, right?

2 for the mothers
2 for us (bride and groom)
1 unity candle

= 5 candles

you dont' have to get specific candles for the mothers.... they should be able to light the two altar candles that will already be standing on the altar (in regular Masses these would be lit by the altar servers or the priest or deacon). I dont' think there is any need to buy more candles.

Do they do this before the ceremony begins (like before I walk down the aisle)???

Or do they light the candles when we are doing the unity candle?

The altar candles are usually lit after the mother(s) walk down the aisle. they do this before they sit down... then the bridal party and yourself would come down afterwards.

I have seen each set fo parents light one taper and then pass it to their son or daughter and then you both light the unity candle. I personally like the above option---you light your candle from the one already lit... this way, it's you and your husband ONLY doing in the unity candle.. .which makes sense to me since you two are the ones forming the union.

Altar candles are different than the two taper (skinny) candles for me and FH, right?

Sorry, I don't know the candle terminology.

We are doing this...our mothers are lighting the candles first. I have seen it done with the candles already lit and then the bride and groom light them. Our church has the stand

Our priest lit the tapers before the ceremony. Then DH and I lit the unity candle together. I purchased the stand in Wicks & Sticks (which I think went out of business) in Roosevelt Field.
