Are you giving your photographer a must take photo list? POLL~
I am trying to figure out if I should give one or not....there are lots of pictures I love and would like to recreate..but on the other hand I would like to just trust the photographer to do their thing. Is it rude to give them a list of photos you want? What are you girls doing??

I did, I wanted to make sure that the absolute must-haves were taken. Give them a list of the traditional pics you want taken, then the photo-journalistic ones you can just let them do their thing.

I am perfectly confident in my photographer, he's the professional there.

When I met with our photog I discussed this with him. He actually has a form that I have to fill out that tells him the important people so he knows who needs to be involved in the shots. We both agreed that he's a professional and does this for a living, so he knows what shots to get. I'd rather have him taking shots than miss some good ones because he's trying to make sure he gets all 30 I put on a list for him. They know to get pics of the rings, invitations, etc if they are a reputable photog.

I didn't give a list of 'recreate' pics, but I did give a list of pics that needed to be taken. Some times you might want other pictures that a photographer doesn't know about. Like a picture of all your cousins even if there are like 40 of them in the pic. I forgot some that I wanted and the photographer forgot some too, so if it's important that certain pics are taken, them give the photographer the list. They shouldn't be insulted, they should be happy that they will be able to give you want you want. IMO!

I don't see how this could be deemed rude. If you are paying someone for there services why is it rude for you to be specific about what you want

I did because my photographer asked me to. He didn't get all the shots I asked for, but made up for it by taking others.

I agree with this...I plan to give only a list of pics that are a necessity. For example, I want a professional pic of me and my college roommates...or I want a pic of me, FH and all of our old co-workers. You have to tell them about these kinds of pics because they won't know about taking them, and I certaintly don't think I'll remember day of!! Definitely not giving them a re-create list though...I trust them to do their jobs! JMO!

I trust my photo, I choose him bec his work is diff. They have an eye for these things. they know what they are doing, I dont need to give them a list for that, besides I am not picky with pics, whatever he takes, he takes and I will love it. I am going to let my photo do his job

I am definitely giving him a list. First off, they ask for one so that they know if there are pictures you really want - I think it's great that they ask because they can't read your mind; if there's a specific picture (or 10) that you really want, how are they supposed to know??
Also, I have a thing for pictures. I love my photographer's work and I trust him, but I know that there are some pics that I really really want and you know what? You don't get that day back - ever... so if something is missed that you really wanted, there's no way to recreate it.
So yeah, I'm giving them a list. I really don't think it's rude at all. Also, some shots that you may think are 'basic' or traditional shots, may not be basic to your specific photographer. Something to think about.

i will be. they expect it. almost every wedding planning site and magazine has a pre-fabricated list of must-have pics to give ur photographer. i don't think its rude.

I might not give one to my photographer but I am definately going to write one and give it to my sister (MOH) to make sure they take all the pics. Too many friends have complained that their photographer missed that group shot or this group shot! I am paying too much money to deal with that!

My photog doesn't take a list, but did say he would if it were for very specific out of the norm shots, like these
Re: Are you giving your photographer a must take photo list? POLL~
Yes. Our photographer, Duet, asked for one. The company has a check-off list of standard photos to take, plus room to write in more. Anything to increase communication between the client and vendor is a good thing!
