I am not sure what's right. I am getting married at St. Barnabas in Bellmore, my childhood church. I don't go to church and have moved to sufflok county. My reception is at the watermill. Is it the proper thing to invite the priest marring us to the reception?? If you don't really know him will he even come?? Please let me know what all of you are doing. I don't want to have a blunder!! Thanks!

Re: Are you guys inviting the priest ...
If your priest has been great to you then go ahead. Our priest didn't know us well until the day we came in to book our date but since then we have spoken on the phone, in person as well as over email and he has been great through all the crap we have been going thru with postponing.
We orginally didn't invite him to our reception b/c our mass was at 1:30 and he had a 3:30 as well as a 5:30 after us but we would have loved him there.
I don't think it is expected to invite your priest especially since the Roman Catholic church likes to have a few weddings in a day.
Also, I wouldn't invite him if you are questioning it because seriously people who invite because they feel they need too are really messing up our resheduling at our parish. There are many possible reschedule dates for us but our priest has responded to other couples weddings and can't not attend now.
I would love our priest to be there if we could. Basically except for my groom to be, he one of the most important men that day since he is marrying us. We also plan on having our priest down the line baptize our first child (which will be way down the line) but we feel it is important for him to continue with our family. That is just us. Do, what you need.
I know some people don't have good relationships with their priests but we do and were very lucky.
But I think part of that also has to do with both me and my fiance grew up in Irish Catholic homes and attended Catholic school so we are very comfortable around Priests, Nuns and Brothers.

Re: Are you guys inviting the priest ...
My FH told me it's customery to invite the Priest to the reception in Ireland. So that they can say a pray before the meal. So we are probably going to invite our Priest. We want to keep a good realtionship with our Priest he baptized our son. (He's a young Priest & was honored when we requested that he marry us)

I will invite our priest. For my brother's wedding, the priest only stayed for the cocktail hour and then left. I think it is proper to invite him.

Re: Are you guys inviting the priest ...
Did you sent an invitation to the church? I will only have seen my priest 3 times when he marries us. one time for the first interview, one time for 2 minutes and one more time a week before the ceremony. Thanks again.
