Re: Are you spending Thanksgiving with your family?
chris'mrs - I know EXACTLY what you mean - read my post - I don't celebrate Christmas - so every year that is all about his family - which is fine because it's not my holiday - so why can't we spend some more time with my fam. on turkey day??

We will be doing double duty.
My family eats earlier so we go there first, then it is off to his parents house. It is a 5 minute ride between the two, we are lucky in this sense.

Re: Are you spending Thanksgiving with your family?
We will be spending our Thanksgiving at both houses. FH's GTG starts at 3:30pm and my family party starts at 8:00pm so we will be able to split the day.

Re: Are you spending Thanksgiving with your family?
mrswask - It seems as though this is one of the only things we really argue about. And it is more because my FIL's are the one's that get so upset. We have been together for almost 4 years and every holiday we argue. I think alternating it evenly is only right. When you start splitting the day and doing half at one house and half at the other, you really don't spend much time with either family. And you spend most of the day in a hurry to get to the other place! I am trying to stop it now before we get married! Good luck, hopefully your FH will come around and see your point! Men!!

Re: Are you spending Thanksgiving with your family?
Well, we are going to have it at our small apartment for the first time because his parents' kitchen is being redone, so they have no oven or stove. So I will be cooking my first Thanksgiving dinner, and I've never made turkey before, so hopefully it comes out okay. I think if they were able to have it at their house, I, at least, would have been with my family for Thanksgiving b/c we go to his parents' for Christmas Day dinner b/c Christmas Eve is when my family basically celebrates. I feel like it's such a hassle as to who we go to for what holiday.

Re: Are you spending Thanksgiving with your family?
I guess we got kind of lucky!!! His family eats earlier amd mine eat later so it is two meals for us that day!!! This is what we have done for the past 4 years!!! Of course, I'd rather just spend the day with mine!!

Re: Are you spending Thanksgiving with your family?
My family is in Iowa so that means im spending that day with Jim's family instead.
They are so sweet, they are trying to be nice to me and having me feel at home. They want to try to have a traditional thanksgiving dinner. It's so cute.
They don't normally celebrate that date, since they are Chinese and the holiday means very little to them other than food and time off of work to spend at home with family.
They also don't understand my family doesnt really give much importance to that holiday either. We have American Indian heritiage and this is the time of year we mentally sulk. heh. But we do love our Football and Food.
I may or may not make the turkey, still not sure, but I CAN make the whole traditional meal. My parents thought it important that we learned the holiday meanings and traditions so we wouldnt feel out of place.
As an adult I choose to use Thanksgiving as a Mental Health Holiday for myself. A time of the year to look back and what's been done, what I've gained or lost and just breathe. Oh, and watch Football!!!!
It's my prep for Xmas, lbaking and such.

Re: Are you spending Thanksgiving with your family?
We decided to do Thanksgiving with our own families and then the X-Mas/Chanukah works out for us since my house does X-mas Eve and his house does X-mas day.

Re: Are you spending Thanksgiving with your family?
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! We have spent the last two in NYC, going to the parade. Unfortunately his fire dept schedule has him working the day before and the day after. So we are going to spent it with his family here. If only we weren't so far away, I would spend it with both!
