he got me something. i definately will not get him something now because itll be very obvious, i already said, 'whyyyy, i didnt know we were exchanging' (aka, i didnt get you anything)

I am so bad at things like this. i know i definitely have to get my secretary something, but i don't have one boss - there are like 6 partners in my department. but if you only have one boss then i'd say yeah, in the future i'd do it.

i have never gotten a boss anything and i'm planning on keeping it that way (unless i get really friendly with a boss one of these days)

Generally the mindset is that the bosses gift their employees, and not the other way around.
Aside from one job, where I was tight with my boss (we were in the same position for awhile and then she became my boss, so we were friendly before the boss/employee relationship started), I've never gotten my bosses a Christmas/Hanukkah gift.
I did get a boss a 50th birthday gift though, but it was a group gift from the department.

Yeah no.
That would be awkward in my setting...well, I always make fun of him for eating Oodles of Noodles, so maybe a 12pack of that would be funny but certainly nothing personal.
My coworker is getitng him a Vaseline lotion so he stops coming to her desk, and she wrote in his card she will call him out if he is ashy

well my boss' are my parents so yes i have to get them a gift. fh isnt related to his boss but all the guys he works with put together money and they get his boss really nice gifts each year.

I get my three supervisors a little godiva thing... like a little bag with dark choc covered almonds for like 3.95 each at lord and taylor and a card... nothing big.

i'd say a card is more than fine. its definitely employer buys for employee (as a sign of appreciation for your work) not the other way aroun UNLESS you're super chummy.
I didn't but we do a secret santa thing at work...

I work at a school and although not many get the principal a gift I always have. This year I just got him a bottle of champagne. One year I got him wine and another I got him a tie.

I'm my boss and I just bought myself my FAVORITE thing in the world: Kettle Corn popcorn from Trader Joe's! I even started eating it before all the rest of the groceries were unpacked or put away!!
Other than that, I don't think I've usually given gifts in the past, not unless something was organized by the whole group or whatever....

i usually get him something but this yr i didnt. i wont see him til monday (after xmas) and im just soo exhausted.
i will bake for him through out the year with the kitchenaid he got me for my shower. but we have to sneak it though cuz his wife is giving him a hard time to loose weight lolol
