Are you supposed to invite the priest

Are you supposed to invite the priest

I just came to the realization with 3 weeks to the wedding that I think your supposed to invite your priest or clergy member to the reception. Does anyone know? I am not Catholic or really religious so I really never thought about it. Now I am worried.

Yes, and he sits at one of the parents tables, ie your parents if he is from your parish.

He isn't from either of our Parishes. I am not Catholic and FH is very Catholic but is from NJ and we had a friend help us connect with him so we could get married there.

Re: Are you supposed to invite the priest

what if you are certain your wedding will not stay priest appropriate?

And who do I sit him with, my non Catholic, non religious family or FH's NJ family?

And how do I send him an invitation when we are now way past the RSVP date on them.

AHHH!!!!

Hmmm. Do you send the invite to the church?

I invited our priest but he is a family friend of FH so he would have come regardless.

Wow I TOTALLY didn't even think of that.

I guess I would if the priest was from our parish or we actually knew him.

Is it horrible to say I really wouldn't want him to say yes

I think etiquette says that you should. We're inviting ours, but he is also close with FH's family. I don't think he will be able to attend though because there is a vespers going on at the church that night.

You are supposed to... we have the same situation- my family isn't Catholic and not really religious, FH's family is, but they live upstate so the church we are getting married at isn't either of our parishes.

So, yes, I am sending him an invite but I highly doubt he will come.

I would mail one out ASAP. You at least made the gesture and especially if neither of you really know him I doubt he will come.

Yikes, I didn't do this either. It is not our parish. Maybe I should just send one, hmmmm

We aren't inviting ours past cocktail hour. I doubt it will be an issue since he seems to have weddings constantly and might be running to another but it was just preference.

our priest came to the wedding, and you should have seen him swinging me around the dancefloor!!!! we all had a great time!

We did, but then again my priest is very close with my family. He ended up declining though. We invited him to the RD and he came to that. Is he doing your rehearsal? Maybe just invite him to that. Did you in laws ask you to invite him?

I don't know what to do now since my invitations are past the RSVP date.
