Are you supposed to tip the photographer

OUr's is his own business, he doesn't work for a company, we wouldn't tip him would we?

Ours also is a partner in the business.
I don't think we'll tip him, but we'll get him something as a thank you

my photographer works for herself...she doesnt own a company and doesnt have others working for her, just that she works for herself and thats it, and yes we are tipping her...when its an independent photographer who doesnt work for a company then all costs are out of pocket and they dont make profit off of other employee's, so its different.

I would even say theres more reason to tip these type of photographers...If they own a company then like i said they make money off the other photographers...if a photographer works for a company then all their supplies, work area is funded by the company...Working for yourself its your own money you put into everything such as camera, lenses, photoshop programs, albums and so on.

I realize I am crashing by asking this....but does this rule apply to every service, that if thye own their own business than you dont have to tip? I am asking specifically about hair and make up. Normally I wouldnt even think about not tipping, but now this has me thinking....

Typically you do not have to tip if the person providing the service is the owner

Nope not tipping. Especially because my photographer has no store front there is even less overhead. It is basically all profit except for cost of materials and time.

I didn't know this! My photographer owns his business and so does my videographer, so that means I don't tip either??

its not a rule like you cant tip them, they say you dont have to if you dont want to...Some still do tip, my mom owns a salon and has owned quite a few since i was a little girl and let me say that EVERYBODY tips her, and if i go to salon and its the owner i do the same...I dont know personally i just tip everyone, its all up to you

Yeah I am the same way I usually tip but then you read stuff and you are like wait should I? I've already set aside in the budget for tipping so I know we are tipping out.

I could see tipping your hair cutter but I can not see tipping a photographer. Haircutters make a lot less than a photographer. For a person to own his or her own company and will be the photographer, I'm sure they have already taken into account their supplies in the wedding packages that they are selling. Besides, thats their business, to buy the appropriate supplies needed for an event. Plus, when you are paying for your photographer to fly in just for your wedding, like I am and I am covering all travel expenses, I think a tip is not even thought of in the photographers minds because it's not in mine....LOL

exactly, our's works out of his home and does amazing pics, but he has no overhead.

It was his fathers business and he has taken over, so it's family owned.

Three of my cousins used him so I guess I will see what they say but I don't think I'm going to.

Does anyone have one of those bridal etiquette books on hand that tells you who to tip? God knows I have a million of them at home, but I'm at work right now.
