This may be a stupid question but should an area rug fit completely under your bed and extend from the bed. Or can you have it start from like the middle of the bed and come out from the bottom of the bed? So it doesn't have to completely cover the floor beneath the bed, but it can cover where you walk to get into the bed? Am I making sense?
I think its up to you and the rug you like and what you can afford...
but typically I think they cover most of the floor...

Re: Area Rug Question
its however you want it to accomplish the look you are going for! in my LR, i have it under the coffee table, but not underneath the sofas. this way you see more of it and still see some hardwood flooring.

Re: Area Rug Question
Personally I prefer a slightly smaller rug...otherwise it looks more like carpet than an area rug.

Re: Area Rug Question
Yes, steph that is what I want. I am just worried about putting it only half way under the bed and it coming out on the sides and at the foot of the bed. Just want to make sure it won't look silly not fully covering the floor under the bed.

Re: Area Rug Question
I use my LR as sort of a boundary area that seperates the room. Like in my Living Room, the rug is the sitting area and the non rug part is the walkway.
This is from Pottery Barn...obviously not a bedroom but you get the idea;
