Area Rugs?

Hi girls. My DH and I want to start looking for area rugs for our bedroom and dining room.

Can you girls suggest a great place to go? We went to Fortunoffs but all the ones we liked were $3,000!!

We want something nice quality and stylish, but can't pay $3,000 for it.

Any suggestions, please?

We got a nice one at KMart for our apartment, we didn't want to go all out and spend a lot of $$. They also have them at Target, etc.

Go to the ABC Carpet and Home outlet on Route 80- directions listed on their website.. they have an ENTIRE ROOM of area rugs.. some affordable, some expensive- but it's worth the trip....

The have other furniture too- we got a great sofa & chair set for under 2k!

Cool, thanks girls! I am off of work on Monday so I think I will go check out the places you suggested. I hate shopping on the weekends, too crowded, you know.

A friend also told me about Marshalls? Don't know about that one, but you never know! :) Sometimes you are just at the right place at the right time!

Macys is/was (not sure if its still on) having a big sale. They have a large selection in a wide price range. If you are going to make a substantial investment in a rug you might want to read up on them a little. Its important to know what you are getting for your money as there are a lot of 'misrepresented' items out there.

Definitely check out Ikea...I got a few nice ones from Pergament, but I think that store closed down. Also check Home Depot.

Yeah I know Macys was having a huge 75% off sale, and I missed it!

It was pouring that weekend and it was a tent sale, I think.

So can you give me a little 'education' on area rugs. I don't know that much as to what differences there are between them. But like I said, we can't pay $3,000. I know there are some made from silk I think??

a good one is going to be in the $3K+ area...

If you look at the back of the rug you can see how tightly the rug was woven...ask a salesperson (even at fortuoffs) to show you the difference...so you know what you are looking at...


I have seen very nice rugs at Marshall's...they are definitely better than Ikea...but it is hit or miss..

maybe you should wait for the next sale...


edited to say...hand woven will be more expensive than machine woven

I am not sure of the quality, but JcPenny'shas them too.

Ikea has great looking rugs really cheap, but I ma not sure of the quality, maybe if you get one from there just to hold you over till you can get a really good rug.

Oh boy! Well sorry to sound cheap, but I am not paying $3,000 for an area rug. Then again, I would pay that for carpeting, right. Wow. Well we will see. Our bedroom set wasn't even $3,000!

Just wanted to let you know that the MegaMarshalls have great rugs(this is the one in Syossett & the one in Stonybrook). You could also try the Home Goods store(they are owned by the same company), one is located in Port Jeff & another one will be opening in Commack 0n the 22nd, I believe. The new one will probably have a great selection of rugs!

Pottery Barn, and also their outlet store in Riverhead at the outlet mall - both have area rugs.
