Areas in the Bronx?

So we've figured out upstate is going to be too hard of a commute. What neighborhoods of the Bronx/Westchester area is a decent commute that has affordable housing and is in a decent area? Any ideas?

I think the Pelham Parkway area is somewhat affordable

Riverdale can be pricey but has some affordable areas

White Plains isn't too too bad

Thanks, I checked those out, but didn't find any single-families that are affordable. I see lots of co-ops or condos, but I don't want to live in one of those since we have 2 dogs.

My DH's grandmother lives in Riverdale. It is so nice there!

I lived in Riverdale while I was in College. Manhattan College is there as well as nearby Mt. St. Vincent. Greystone, Fieldstone are also nice areas, besides Riverdale.

The Throgs Neck section of the Bronx is nice too.

Re: Areas in the Bronx?

I'm really open to anywhere in NY (but not Long Island, can't afford those taxes) that doesn't have a horrible commute. I am unhappy with my commute in Queens right now. I have to take a bus that sometimes takes a half hour to get to the 7 train, and then I take 2 trains. I'm happy if I can just take one nice train or an express bus. I'm so sick of the packed train cars, I really can't take it. Anyone know, not only for Bronx, any affordable areas where it's no more than an hour and 15 mins. to get to the city? I don't mind it that long if I'm only riding one thing.
