So, everyone wants me to find some kinda job, anything since this whole school psych thing doesnt seem to be panning out too well... so, i finally find something, a full-time babysitting job, its not much but it'll bring in some $$ for the time being... And mom talks to her co-worker who says for the money they would be paying me, they are taking advantage of me... Now, I know the pay isnt anything to brag about, and I'd tried hitting em up for more, but they didnt bite... So I mean, is it better to pass on this, hoping something better will come along and still be sitting on my asss at home making zip or take a bit of a cut and be making SOMETHING?!?!?
Im soooo aggravated

I say, take the job for now... it is better than nothing!
Listen to this, My good friend lives in Jersey and has a school psych degree also... she got a job right from her internship. I was so happy for her, but jealous too bc it was so easy for her ya know...ever consider moving to Jersey?

Take the babysitting job and always keep your eyes and ears open for a bigger better opportunity. That way you are bringing in $$ while still hoping for more!!

funny you should mention that bc when i did my internship, the psych was actually retiring so i thought oooh wonderful! why wouldnt they hire me? i would have already been there for an entire school yr, know the kids and staff, etc etc... did the best i could until i found out that they wanted someone with experience and was looking for a male replacement... once i heard that, i was like fcukkk this... and completely starting slackin ... it was like i did all that hard work and they wouldnt even give me the chance... not to mention that my supervisor was a complete b*tch towards me and i put up with her...

Aww... the whole job hunting thing does suck. I hate it! I was also a psych major... but ended up doing nothing with it. If I were you I would take the babysitting job in the mean time because it's better than nothing and it's money for the time being. You can always keep looking for another job. If worse comes to worse... they are ALWAYS hiring at banks!

psych is such an interesting field, but seriously it seems like you get nowhere with it... its really depressing after all that schooling... and not knowing where your life is going is just the most horrible feeling... sry to make this into a vent/pity post... i rarely come out with this kinda stuff on here, but just really needed the support

One of my Bms is having the same problem! She cant find anything! I would take the job until you find something else. Some money is better then no money!

I totally feel your pain Gina!! I graduared in May with a degree in education and couldnt find a sub position no less a perminent position! I finally got a per diam sub position in William Floyd......but that only happened in Nov.! It made me sick that i had wasted all that time and money getting an education and then would still have to work in a store. I was just about to start applying to retail stores when they called.
So to answer your question.....I think you should take the babysitting job. You never know, something better could come up and then you can quit. Like FH told me a little income is better then no income at all.
Good luck!

What degree do you have? A masters in psychology? I wonder if it would look good for you to get a job in counseling/therapy?

It really is a hard field, you need sooo much schooling to really do anythig with it and even then it's hard. It works better as a secondary major... like with education or with social services, counseling, etc. I have a friend who was a psych major and worked with mentally ill people (younger ones though... like late teens through to 30's or so) then she ended up going to nursing school and just became a nurse. It's a nice background to have in life generally. I think at the very least it can make people more aware and well rounded. So there's a positive to it. Truthfully though... most people come out from college with degrees in things that they never even end up using. They get positions with companies so far from what they went to school for. It's insane. Are you set on doing something with psych? What about something that's closely related to it like school counselor.... just in the beginning to get the experience in? Or working with Everyone needs to vent every now and then... so it's all good... no applogies needed! :) I haven't yet figured out or tried to put those cute little smileys in these posts. I'm very new to this whole LIW stuff. Still trying to get the lingo down.

Re: ARGGGG Gonna screammmm
I definitely feel your pain...I have my masters in School Counseling and have yet to find anything. And my sister has her masters in school psych and is in the same position. It's really frustrating!!! I would definitely take the babysitting job for now...that's actually what my sister did for a while.
