ARGGH Frickin' Photocube!

ARGGH Frickin' Photocube!

The hot glue did not keep it together!

And so I tried Gorilla Glue today....well Gorilla Glue doesn't immediately adhere...it takes a loooong time. You have to use a clamp to make it stick. Well...because of the way the cube is done with the corners, you can't even clamp it!!

I'm seriously about to trash this thing.

I am just about to attempt to make ours...What about L brackets or nails?

Re: ARGGH Frickin' Photocube!

what about using like an 'L bracket' from the inside on the corners?

Re: ARGGH Frickin' Photocube!

The screws only cracked the frames....

Maybe I should try crazy glue?

Re: ARGGH Frickin' Photocube!

We used plastic L-brackets...and hot glued them inside the cube to help hold them in place....actually ours fell apart on the way to the reception hall...due to heat...but since we were dropping it off a few days before the wedding we were able to fix it and bring it back to the hall...happy it happened before then at the wedding! As of now it's still holding (over a month now!) HTH

ohhh plastic L brackets! Why didn't I think of that? Thanks!!!

also, drill small lead holes into the frames (so that the screw goes into the frame without cracking it). This is what FH and I are going to try when we make ours.

Re: ARGGH Frickin' Photocube!

Twin I had the same problem, I actually finished mine today. I used small metal L brackets that FH slowly and gently screwed into the 4 top corners of the frames. I bottom will be a wood lazy susan that I painted the same color of the frames and hot glued the frames to that. I wasn't thrilled because you could still see the brackets a bit when I set the pillow top inside so I just painted them the color of the frames. This helped alot because it just sorta blened in with the frames, it looks much better than the shiny metal sticking out of the corners. I'll post pics later. HTH

29 days away, could you believe it

Thanks girls, and Rosa too!

I dunno...FH is determined to get it to work...but I'm so over it. I already feel like we have too many pics of us at the placecard table - two 8x10s and two 5x7s of us in Yankee jerseys from our epics. Maybe the photocube is just too much self-love.

Tara, you guys will get it - don't give up!!! The idea of the glued plastic L brackets is a great one! Try that!

Re: ARGGH Frickin' Photocube!

don't give up yet. try the brackets on the inside (i bet you could nail the brackets to the base and then glue the sides. could you maybe clamp or hold two sides together and then put the two side sets together later instead of all at once so they have a chance to adhere to each other?

i seriously wouldn't give it up yet. there HAS to be a way to make it work!

You can do it! We believe it you! ... and the glue lol

Re: ARGGH Frickin' Photocube!

You can also use 90 degree brackets on the corners

and use strap clamps to hold it together as the glue dries

Wood glue actaully bonds the wood fibers together, it is very strong but would have to dry overnight - I usually use a combination of wood glue and corrugated brads

or brackets - the brackets can loosen up over time and make you box wiggle.

But really it all depends how long you want the photo cube to last - if it's just for the wedding day, the brackets will be great.

Wow, Nina! Thanks, that was so helpful! FH's dad actually suggested the same thing, I just never saw a pic of it before. And thanks ladies for the encouragement...I think I've lost the drive but at least FH is still into it. He's too cute...he's determined to get this thing done!

Thanks everyone! We'll figure it out!
