I told her I had the list of people invited to the RD and their addresses to send them out the invites. She said 'there is really no need, I want to keep it casual word of mouth.
Its tacky and I dont care, im sending out invites anyway whether or not she wants them or thinks they are necessary.
She has to stop comparing our wedding to her daughters. Her daughters was tacky and I am NOT!!!!!
Im so done with her, its not even funny!

I'm not about to start any popcorn filled thread. We also aren't sending out any big invite to the RD, my wedding is far from tacky.
I just don't see why the RD for 15-20 people has to be so formal. *IF* we send out invites, they're going to be casual, but not sending them is fine in my book.

Me neither... And I've actually never gotten an invite to a RD for any of the weddings I've been in.
That being said, it's your wedding so if you want invites to the RD, then send out invites.

Re: ARGH....
I won't be sending out RD invites either and I don't think it is tacky. I will let everyone know when the rehearsal is, after the rehearsal is over I plan on getting everyone together and thanking them for everything they have done for us, then invite them to dinner.

Re: ARGH....
Not only did we not send out invites... but I paid for our own RD. We had 24 people and we all had a wonderful, tacki-less time.
Sorry your FMIL is upsetting you. Sounds like you're pretty stressed, so I hope you feel better soon!

Re: ARGH....
I kind of did a middle ground - we didn't send out formal invitations but did a slip in inside our invitations in the pocket. It folded over the pocket and said Rehearsal like the Reception, directions and Response cards did. but it was smaller and just slid in the appropriate ones. Maybe if you want to actually invite people, you could do it that way?
I had no choice really because my FILs live in New Zealand and we are doing almost all of the planning/organizing and we wanted the across the world guests (too far away to just be OOT) to know there was dinner on Friday so they landed in time.

Re: ARGH....
me neither! I didnt plan on sending RD invites, I plan to just call everyone or email them the info. Formal invitations would be nice but its simply not in the budget.

Re: ARGH....
I dont think it is tacky not too but I do like the idea of invites just so there are no questions and confusion.
we have invites for ours.
maybe explain you would rather have them just so ppl aren't calling her asking questions.

Re: ARGH....
Its definitely easier to send out invites so you dont have to call everyone and tell them of the details. But if she is paying for the RD and you send the invites out behind her back she might be really offended.

Re: ARGH....
I personally plan on doing invites for the RD. It's just easier to have all the information in one place without having to call people ( imo, anyway). You can get them for a very reasonable price on Vista Print so cost shouldn't deter you too much.

I actually think the invites are important. Without them, people forget the times etc. I dont think it's tacky not to send them, but I think people appreciate having the info all in one place

Re: ARGH....
I would just tell her that you would like to send out invites. Tell her that you understand how she feels but your family would like invites. I would also take it upon yourself to send them out.

Re: ARGH....
Im sorry.... I didnt mean to be rude. Whether or not you send the invites for the RH is a personal decision. I did my own Save the Dates and I plan on using the remaining stationary to just print something up with all the information. Simple, cheap and I thought easy.
Im just sick and tired of FMIL, she has a way of making me seem like a greedy, selfish person thru this whole process.

Re: ARGH....
We're doing a very casual RD - a catered bbq in FIL's backyard. I'm not sending invites either.......*if* I do, it'll be an e-vite, lol. I don't need to spend more money on extra invites.
