argh, need advice!

argh, need advice!

im trying to figure out the exact wording for my invitations and i'm going a little nuts.
here is the current controversy in my household:
is the year 2003 written as:

two thousand and three
or
two thousand three

i KNOW the 'and' implies a decimal point, yet both my mom and FH are insisting we use the 'and' - even though i KNOW it is incorrect. it also seems that every single website and invitation we have ever received has the incorrect 'and.'

SO, is it some wedding etiquette to use the 'and'? i am just so annoyed/confused and just want to have the 'correct' wording in my invites!!

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!! i need as many opinions as possible!!

I totally agree that two thousand and three means 2000.3
LOL so I would go with two thousand three, (but I am a math geek!)

Re: argh, need advice!

you guys are right that it sounds improper..... but the proper way to say it for a wedding (something on the norm which is more formal) is two thousand and three.....

sounds weird doesn't it?!!!

two thousand 'and' three - sounds better

I would put the 'and' in there also. It does sound better. But you are right, and does imply a decimal.

The woman I ordered my invites from INSISTED we use 'and'. I went with her better judgment.

The and may imply a decimal but it sounds much better. All invitations I have received included the and.

I don't think any guest will correct you

Re: argh, need advice!

I fought the same fight with about ' and '. In the end we used it on our invites ... its accepted and just sounds better.

Don't stress these bity details (I learned my lesson the hard way) ... in the long run, they won't matter enough to make a big deal over it. Most people will mark their calendar & throw it in a drawer somewhere!

Good luck!
