arguing with friends

arguing with friends

If you had a friend who was known to have a bad temper, make extremely rude snide remarks to people, etc. and one day he verbally jabbed at you and insulted you NON-STOP without any cause at all, would you accept an apology? Would you accept an apology if you knew full well that he is likely to act like this again? What about if he made an attempt to say things about you to your husband?

ETA--If you finally took the bait and said one very nasty thing back to the person, would you apologize?

Would it matter to you if some of this happened in front of people?

That person is not a real friend. I wouldn't have any problem telling them off even with people watching, and cut my losses.

I can understand rude behavior- eveyone has bad days, but NOT as a way of life.

First off, for you, Kerie!!

Accepting an apology would def depend on what exactly was said and how much it actually hurt you in the first place. If you think the apology is worthless and he's going to do it again, then no I wouldn't accept it and I would cut that person out of my life.

If he made an attempt to say things to my husband I would actually feel really sorry for him. There's no way DH would tolerate anyone bad mouthing me, friend or not.

If I came back and said something nasty in response to his behavior, well I would only apologize if I was going to accept his apology. Otherwise, I wouldn't apologize bc I wouldn't be sorry I said it.

And finally, yes I think it would hurt me more if this had happened in front of people. I would take that as another reason to cut him out of my life so as to avoid future embarassment.

HTH!!

If any of my friends made negative comments about me to DH, I would cut them out of my life SO FAST. Simple as that.

i agree.
i am one to walk away from friendships though. i have lost a lot of good ones along the way because of my stubborness and strong mind. i can take a jab or an off colored joke but once you disrespect the people i care about i react like a pit bull and i dont regret anything i have done w/ ending past friendships so i guess my intuition couldnt have been too off.

feel better. alot of times obnoxious people like this person are so insecure w/ themselves they dont have any social skills. keep that in mind the next time a cheap shot is thrown your way. or simply throw it back!

It wouldn't matter if it happened in front of people or not - that person needs a serious attitude adjustment. You don't take jabs at people like that and chalk it up to your bad temper - this person needs to learn restraint and to have respect for their friends.

And I wouldn't apologize for any snide comment I made in return to what they said. I'd just have to cut them out. No one needs a friend like that.

to you, Kerie!

One of the comments to my husband was that my husband should 'set me straight.' My husband set him straight for that remark! He later issued a semi-kinda-sorta apology to my husband but it was very half assed. He has not contacted me yet.

My other friends are going to say, 'oh, you know how he is, don't let it get to you.'

As an attorney, I argue for a living. I don't ever want to argue outside of work. I want to leave it behind at the end of the day. I'm not an arrogant type of attorney. But if someone is going to push me this hard, I could verbally rip them a new *******!
