ARHHH.. So furious NWR just need to vent

Okay as some of you know I am a nursing student. Well this was my first week of clinicals and not only did I get a partner that drives me crazy but she got us kicked off our first patient because she's an A$$$$$$$ and humiliated the pt. in my opinion so the next day when we came in we were told she didnt want student nurses and we were reassigned. Well my partner aggrivated me with this one too but I figured just ignore it and get through the week. Until we came in yesterday and were reassigned yet again to another pt. because supposedly the instructor we had didnt notify the other instructor about the change(which in my opinion if that's all it was then why not just leave us once you found out). Well last night in my opinion went well. So after all of this I come down with the stomach flu this morning because someone else in my group came to class sick the first night and I obviously caught it from her. Well we were told if you miss one day of clinical you are counted out for two and have to pay to make them up on your own time So migraine and all I drove an hour to clinical and told my instructor that I was sick and thought it would be wrong to subject my pt. to possibly getting sick so could I just sit somewhere and do paperwork and she told me NO go home!! and I have no choice but to dock your time for tonight she told me!! I wanted to scream well why didnt you send home the other girl when she told you she was feeling alittle sick then maybe I would've never caught this damn virus and I wouldnt be going home 10min after I got there. Soooooo I turned in my assignment and left. I mean 3pts. in 3 days while everyone else completed their work on one and I had to keep starting my assignment over, I drove an hour to clinical with my assignment completed and now after 10min have to drive an hour home, as well as being considerate to my pt. by informing my instructor that I didnt feel I should be in the room but wanted to stay to do paperwork even if I had to be quarantined(sp sorry Im pissed off right now). Okay thanks, I guess I have no choice to get over it and move on.

That policy is lame - you should not be subjecting people to the virus...they need to rethink. I thought they were supposed to be health experts!!! Sorry! It sounds like you acted with integrity, though...good for you!

Thanks! These are elderly pts. that we are dealing with and I couldnt imagine making them sick just because. I just dont understand why I have to be docked if I showed up and informed you and you sent me home! It's $15p/h to make up the clinical which is $60-$120 depending on whether they make it the one day or since one clinical is equal to two absences they charge me for two days.

ugh.. what an awful situation.. i hope you are feeling much better though..

Thanks. I do feel alittle better and alittle calmer I whined to DH all night last night I have today off and one day left for the first week tommorow. 8am to 1pm and as luck would have it with the instructor that completly confused me so tommorow should be fun, fun, fun! Part of me was glad to have a partner but part of me cant wait for the next clinical and to be on my own with my own pt. Thanks for listening though it helped.

thats awful! im sorry to you had to deal with that. in my opinion you did the right thing. youre supposed to be making them get better, not getting them sick! i cant believe theyre going to dock your pay because of it

No they dont dock your pay, because it's clinical, they dock your time and then you have to pay $$ to make up the hours your short for graduation. If they were docking my pay I'd be really pi$$ed.

So sorry you are sick and hope you feel better soon.

And I would be flippin mad too at your partner.

awww i'm sorry about this! i'm actually glad you vented about it because i'll be able to relate to it soon (i'm going for my accelerated BSN) after i finish my pre reqs and i'm soooo nervous about things like that in the clinicals. GL with them - hope everything starts to go more smoothly!

Oh I feel your pain, I did my clinicals and they were torture. I didn't finishy my second to last semester so I still have to go back but nothing was worse than clinicals, especially if you were sick! But what school do you go to that they pair you up? We had clinical groups but we were all assigned our own patients! I would hate to be reponsible for a patient with someone else. Keep your head up, you will get through this!

We are supposed to have our own pts. and other groups did but my group had some problems from the beginning with miscommunication at the facility so to ease us into the first week they thought it would help with the anxiety level. I was glad at first until like I said my partner drove me nuts. Everyone else seemed to get along fine. Next set of clinicals I'll be on my own.
