Article re: Shark attack in Hawaii

Thought some would benefit from this - I was just in Hawaii last month, and although we didn't see any shark warning signs, we heard a lot of stories - so many to keep me in the pool the whole time!
Shark Attack

Be careful if you go into the ocean over there

That's awful

FH and I already knew about a couple of attacks there, that's why we already know the most we'll do at the beach is have a nice barefoot walk

We'll get our water fun from the pool

Re: Article re: Shark attack in Hawaii

I guess I dont mind b/c I dont need to go into beach water, and I think Hawaii has so much more beauty and appeal than the beach.
But if you are a beach person, then maybe you should reconsider.........

Re: Article re: Shark attack in Hawaii

My DH sent me this article this morning. There was also an attack in Maui while I was there (the article references it). Actually, while I was on my snorkeling trip and we were headed from one location to another when we found that they had closed the beach we are headed to. (They had closed a bunch of beaches). I was listening to the different boats talk to each other about what happened. Luckily DH didn't hear because he has a huge fear of sharks (yes from seeing Jaws as a child) and would never had went back in the water at the second location!

PS It didn't affect my trip at all. Actually snorkeling was really the only time we went in the ocean!

Yes, this CAN happen anywhere - remember Florida a few years back? You do tend to hear about them often over there though - I've always had a fear of the ocean, but DH took a surf lesson anyway, and he was fine.

bridetobe - how scary!

Tara I don't think you should refrain from going b/c of this incident or the others that have happened recently. There is soooo much you can do besides swim in the ocean. I definitely don't plan on changing my honeymoon plans b/c of this. Kind of s***s though.

Oh my...... we were in the ocean in Hawaii everyday for 2 weeks!! We joked about sharks, but never thought it would really happen.

I thought they happened so rarely

Wow, very scarey-

Re: Article re: Shark attack in Hawaii

we were in Hawaii in October and didn't see any shark signs or hear any stories.

BUT, we did a lot of sightseeing and really only spent our water time by the pool.

Hawaii is absolutely gorgeous and I would hate to see someone pass it up because of these articles. There is SO much more to do than swim at the beach at your resort.

I went snorkeling and honestly didn't even think about it!! It can happen anywhere there are tropical waters...so if you're afraid.....you might as well spend your honeymoon skiing in Colorado!! LOL!!!

In all seriousness, there are breathtaking views all over Hawaii...don't pass it up because of this!!
