I think the writer is only saying what a lot of people - including some brides-to-be - are thinking when it comes to wedding websites.

And yes, I have one.

It's pretty easy *not* to look at someone's website. Click off if you don't want to read it. No one is holding a gun to her head.

Of course it's a personal, overblown, narcissistic venture for the bride and groom... what the heck else is it supposed to be?? Dumb@ss.

I think Bridget Jones wrote that! LOL (though I must say that is one of my fave movies.) The writer is obviously a bitter spinster. Even Carrie Bradshaw wouldn't write such an article. Besides the fact that she was incredible condescending and basically mocked everyone who doesn't share the same extensive and unnessecary vocabulary. She basically said we were all beneath her. I feel sorry for her, I hope she finds happiness one day, and in fact creates her own wedding website.

I tend to agree with the writer to some extent... Wedding websites seem to be 'the thing' right now... But we grew up with this whole technology/computer era so its only natural that this become yet another avenue to reach out to tell one's love story...

I personally do not care much for them... I set up one solely for guests to post wedding pics to and was 'encouraged' by the website to add a few pics... So I added 3-- not 600 something like the article mentions... I think some girls do go oveboard with the wealth of info they provide on it... Before the age of comps, wedding guests were still able to get the to venue, share hard copies of pics, and actually SPEAK TO the b&g to find out how they met... Comps def rule a bit too much these days

I couldnt read that article in full becaue the author seemed a bit scorn aboout marriage...

Wedding sites are just like any facebook, twitter, myspace site that people create! It uppose to be pictures and information about you (or the couple) and its suppose to center on this happy occassion! The whole point is annouce the wedding, the reception, the ceremony and show off your love for each other! I dont see the big deal in wedding sites and why this author seemed o angry by them. If she didnt want to looka t her friend' site, then dont look and how scornful can you be to mock you 'friends' and send all other friend to mock them! sad!

I'm willing to bet the author is single and will probably stay that way. I'm also engaged with no wedding website and I still think she sounds like a jealous loser. She can have a gold star for being able to use correct grammar since maybe this is all she has going for herself.

think this was posted on the 2010 board too...(?)
Found the article interesting, and don't think the author comes off as bitter at all. I think there is a high level of narcissim in wedding websites that get out of control.

I posted my comment on the article itself, personally I may do a wedding website but it will only have the basic info (location/directions/registry #s) for my guests, but none of the poetry or 'why we fell in love and need to tell the world about it' stories. But that's just me.

i actually agree with the author, and think the article was quite well written..

i believe the point that she is trying to make is that in such a digital age, the focus becomes more narcissistic than in previous times, and basically that people 'take things too far'

i have a website-it has hotel info, the info for the day of the wedding, and the registry info-that's it, and i can't imagine anyone needing more information than that..

a wedding is supposed to be more than a digital victory or celebration-it's about commitment and values

Actually that article kinda perfectly sums up why we don't have a website...I didn't want to seem like we were parading ourselves around or anything.

I think they're good if you're trying to give your guests a place to find out the times/locations of everything, the hotel blocks and such...but beyond that, all the pictures and stories and stuff...just not my cuppa.

Re: Article: Why I hate your Wedding Web Site

I don't see how having a wedding website is any different from having a facebook, myspace, or twitter. If the author wanted to use an example of the narcissistic behavior of people, she should have chosen one of those social networks instead, where people actually feel the need to catalogue their every location, action etc. on a daily basis as if everyone on their friends list really cared.

To me, the wedding website is a way to give your guest pertinent information ABOUT the wedding. Planning a wedding is a stressful and busy time for a bride, why not make it easier by giving guest a place to refer to instead of having to recieve hundreds of calls from them asking about details regarding the wedding. I think it's ridiculous to criticize brides because they want to display their happiness of getting married on a website. It's not hurting anyone. It's not like their shoving their opinions down people's throats or anything. It is what it is, sharing in your moment of happiness with your family and friends. And why is it a terrible thing to let your family and friends know stories about how you met, or how he proposed? You can only hope that the people who are invited to your wedding hold some significance in your life. Shouldn't they know a little something about you and your FH... I mean they are attending YOUR wedding.

Yes, it should be about the wedding if you're having a website... About what guests really care about the most... That being the time, place, hotel info, etc... Not 100 pics where it seems like the b&g (or prob just the bride since most grooms prob couldnt care less) are trying to show the world how much they love each other... Let it shine and show the world AT your wedding... I cant even begin to tell you how many of my guests came up to us saying how happy we look and how they can tell how much we love one another... how we 'glowed' etc... And this coming from guests who we werent entirely close with!!! So they 'understood' our love without having to try to display it all over a website KWIM?

What I personally did was incorporate our 'meeting' story and what bonds we have that keep us strong into our ceremony... Mostly every guest attended our ceremony and heard firsthand all the details about overselves... And it wasnt told by us (since this would def have that narcissistic feel like a website can have)... It was said eloquently by our offciant... And I actually had a guest write in a card how much they loved hearing our story...

I really think the article is a little bit deeper than it first comes off as... Once you peel away that 'bitter' layer that the author seems to have, I really think its all about how tech dependent our society is now
