Aruba Question Re: renting a car

Hi Ladies. For those of you who have been to Aruba, it is worth it to rent a car? I'm not sure if it is more worth it to do that or take taxis everywhere we go. Any opinions are welcome. Thanks!

We did not rent a car. We used De Palm tours to tour the island, took public transportation or took a taxi when necessary.

Re: Aruba Question Re: renting a car

Hi! We went to Arube for our honeymoon last summer for 10 days. We rented a car for about 7 of those days. We really didn't need the car much though. I would recommend renting a car for maybe 2 days or so. It is fun to tour the island on your own. :) Other than that, there are taxi's everywhere to take you around. :) Hope this helps! :)

We only rented a car when we toured the island (one day is all it takes). For everything else, we took taxi's.

You just have to plan your trip if you rent the car...I did for about two days, we planned all our excursions for those two days and the night out on the town for that evening so we got the maximum use of the car, other than that you shouldn't need the car to much, it can get pricey if you leave your hotel everynight and go into town or out a restaurant. The taxis are not cheap, I think we took one once. But luckily my hotel had a casino there, plus nightly shows so we didn't have to go out every night. We toured the island ourselves in one day and the next day drove to the snorkling/boat ride ourselves.

I higly recommend renting a car. Yes, you can take public transportation, but its annoying and it adds up. Me and FH were there in May and I am so glad we rented a car. We just got a basic jeep for 7 days and it was a few hundred dollars-not that bad. It was great because you can just get up and go. The island is only like 30 miles so you can drive everywhere. Some of the tours and excursions can be very $$$ so we drove ourselves and had a great time. Its nice for going to the restaurants and shopping or to go to the casinos. The resorts are pretty far from the town, depending on where you stay. Where are you staying?

Thanks for all of your input. We are staying at the Marriott.

The Marriot is gorgeous but it is far from town so I would rent a car definitely

we rented a jeep for the day and thats all we needed it for. we took taxis for the rest of the time. we shared with other couples which knocks down the expense.

Re: Aruba Question Re: renting a car

FH and I went to Aruba last year and rented a car while we were down there. We found the taxis to be VERY expensive. We went out to dinner every night and drove around almost every day. We stayed in the low rise section so it may be a little different but we were able to use the pools and facilities at all the other hotels in the group (Divi). We also had a full kitchen in our condo so we went to the supermarket a few times to get stuff.
I highly recommend it to at least tour the island. The island is really small and you could drive from end to end in 1 day. If you do decide to get a car, you should check out Baby Beach. It is kind of like a lagoon and the water is great!
