Aruba restaurants!? Help!!

ok, I've been slacking but I really need to make dinner reservations for our HM soon!!
I know there are a million threads on Aruba, and I've read a lot of suggestions, but if you guys had to recommened your FAVORITE restaurants in Aruba, what would they be? And what kind of food do they serve?

So far we definitely want to try Flying Fishbone

My FH doesn't want to try Le Dome b/c he doesn't like French food

Also, if you went to the Flying Fishbone did you rent a car or just take a taxi? If we rent a car, how many days do you think we need it for?

I will be in married and in Aruba one month from TODAY!!!!

Re: Aruba restaurants!? Help!!

to be honest....we didnt make reservations ahead of time and we were always seated promptly

you can also make reservations the day of so you dont commit to anything that when you get there, you might want to change your mind instead

My reccomendations are for more fun. tourist-y places....not rthe omantic restaurants that everyone usually wants on their honeymoon

I didnt enjoy Le Dome though...though it its highly reccomended....I found the menu very small and the people/setting pretentious.

I enjoyed Iguana Joe's in the middle of downtown VERY fun and enjoyable though!

And the Dutch pancake house for breakfast is a must for large servings

My favorite was driftwood. It was in downtown (a little hard to find), and we made a same-day reservation no problem. It has seafood and other things (DH got chicken for the entree). They have 'Aruban' food. Very reasonable, and if you have the one cool honeymoon card, you can get wine or dessert free.

My second favorite was salt and pepper, very casual, no reservations necessary. Tapas and american-style food, in the high-rise hotel area.

Have fun!

We had the hotel concierge make reservations for us and it was no problem. We loved Pago Pago, which is in the Wyndham (where we stayed). Papiamento was incredible and IMO, a must! We also really loved Gasparito (Aruban cuisine). Texas de Brazil was yummy... the waiter wouldn't let us stop eating! We loved the Flying Fishbone. We took a taxi from the Renaissance Hotel, since we were downtown. The taxi driver gave us his card and the restaurant called him to pick us up. He was there before we finished dessert. El Goucho was good for steaks.

Re: Aruba restaurants!? Help!!

since this thread is about restaurants....maybe my dear husbands pictures of EVERY MEAL WE ATE on our HM will come in handy :)

1) My lobster bisque at Le Dome
2) DH's ostrich (yes ostrich) filet at Le Dome
3) my quesaidilla at Iguana Joe's (my fave place)
4) DH's Keshi Yena (an aruban meal of shredded chicken with melted gouda yum-o! )

Re: Aruba restaurants!? Help!!

1) one night we stayed in our hotel at La Cabana and had a tapas dinner...very nice and low key...sat outside under twinkling lights...low guitar music in the background...so romantic!

2)DH's mel at the Buccaneer ....very cool restaurant- not very touristy though since its in a residential area...outside looked shady but even DH was impressed with the HUGE fishtank inside with shark and all! Food was very good...kinda kitcshy and all...with a pirate/nautical theme

3) Dh's meal at El Gaucho...I hated this place...I wish there was more than just meat on the menu- we went b/c DH was dying to go...he enjoyed it though so its one of those marriage compromises...he let me get dunkin donuts for dessert so i was feeling better ;)

papamiento... great place to eat...Defintely get the steak. You can cook it yourself on a hot stone, AND they have THE best sangria i have ever had! The atmosphere is great. It is around the pool ...Email me if you want more info. Also the sunset grille was fantastic.
