Personally... I enjoyed when I got something besides jewelry as a bridesmaid gift. then when I received the jewelry. Thats just me though

Personally I like getting more. Im giving my girls DOJ and lots of other things that go with THEIR personality. I got the DOJ for $6. They arent the type to wear jewlery and I know they wont wear it again so I thought inexpensive but, nice. Im getting one of BMs a tote with a bunch of beach stuff in it. The other BM a coach wristlet, I hope. My matron of honor a Vera Bradley bag. For My Maid of Honor i have no idea yet, my sister is sooo hard to buy for. Im thinking of things from our chilhood.
There are soo manything you can get them including the DOJ. HTH

i'll be doing doj BUT i'll also be giving them other goodies too-like bath and body works stuff...possibly a wristlet. I'm doing tote bags and filling them up. The doj might be from claires...something not too expensive so if they don't really like it they can chuck it and it won't matter-id hate to spend $90 on a necklace and not even be positive if they like it and will wear it.

IMHO, I think a NICE piece of jewelry would be appreciated and cherished - a good strand of pearls, a necklace from Tiffany's - but if I was to give/receive DOJ that was specifically for that day that I wouldn't wear any other time, then I'd like to give/receive something else. EX: after all the hard work and extra time we as BMs spent with a bride last year (and believe me, we were very generous with our time and $$ for her) she gave us a Kohl's jewelry set - I'm not materialistic, but it was costume jewelry at best, and nothing else. We all felt underappreciated - and it was ugly. But, it was what she wanted and we were respectful. In her case I would've found something small to give to each girl that represented their unique relationship to the bride. It doesn't have to cost alot at all.

for the last wedding I was in, I got DOJ and I wore it after the wedding. It was pearl earring and a pearl and gold necklace. But then I broke it, so I can't wear it anymore

I already got them high priced DOJ...but I'm getting more then just that! I'm getting little travel sizes of lotion that's their faves..their fave perfumes, ballerina slippers, a small personalized mirror, and something else small that will be different for each BM. It's touch, but fun. Most of the girls in my wedding weren't in many other weddings, so they are new to most of it! My oldest sis didn't even thi9nk I should get her anything! HAHA

I loved getting something that could be used again. So for my girls, I got them things from VS, along with the DOJ that they can wear that day and something comfy for the night before!

I want to get the girls DOJ and maybe a wristlet or the personalized totes from I think its LL bean that you can get pretty close to your wedding colors. I'm not sure yet b/c I want something that they will have and be able to use again. The totes would be good for the beach but the wristlets I think they would use alot more.

The last wedding I was a bm in the bride gave us the DOJ and she also gave us an IPOD Shuffle which was engraved with the couples name and date of their wedding. She also gave us mini bags with our initials on them which contained bath and body works products. We were all VERY touched by this! This was the first wedding that I was in where I got more than the DOJ and it was things we could use again and again.
