As a guest, would you appreciate this time frame? TY
We are trying to decide our time frame for a Friday afternoon wedding in April. I know people have posted about Friday wedding times before, but with this idea in mind we were wondering... Would people rather leave earlier from work and have time to change from work clothes to party clothes or leave early from work and possibly not have enough time to go home in order to change? (ceremony in Deer Park, reception at Georgios-7pmCHstart)
P.S. middle sch and elem sch teachers especially: please respond
Thank you!!

well, if it was me I would leave early from work. Only b/c I work for the state lol and I can sort of do that and wont get crap about it. I would say though, the later the better for the other people who may have a problem getting off so early.
If you can't change the time, then I guess you will just have to have some people miss the Ceremony and Cocktail hour. You do what yo have to do and what works for you.

Honestly I prob. would just take the day off. Do whatever is best for you. 30 minutes really isn't that much of a difference,

im having a friday wedding.. the church is at 5:30 and the cocktail hour starts at 7:30. This way ppl that want to work can still work prety much the whole day n still have time to get ready....

Re: As a guest, would you appreciate this time frame? TY
it all depends. Depends on whose wedding it is and depends if i were able to take off that day, well now i dont have to worry about that lol. But when i did, there were a few times i couldnt take off, or not only that but if you dont have many days left then it can be hard, so if that were the case then i'd have to miss the ceremony and just go straight to reception. Well get home and change. If its somebody i was very close to then i would make sure to just take off that day, to do it FAR in advance since i would probably know their wedding date more than enough time in advance and i would know i have 1 less day to take off for a personal reason bc i have to do this. If i took off then obviously wouldnt care what time ceremony started.
ETA: also will depend on how far the guest works from your ceremony location. I used to work in Jersey, and if ceremony was in LI then i would have to leave pretty early to make 3:30 ceremony or even 4pm ceremony. I would have to get home first to get my car so maybe even leaving work at 1pm which again not everybody will be able to do that. BUT you will have just about all your closest friends and family who will so dont worry

I think the people that want to be there will take the day off anyway. I totally understand where you are coming from though. I was stressing about this...so ended up booking at Giorgio's on a Sat. Now I cant decide to have the church in Nassau where all my friends and family live...or closer to Giorgio's.
Good luck with your decision. I think it will work out no matter what you choose. And give youself enough time between ceremony and CH so you can make it to the CH if that is important to you.

I agree with a few other posters. It depends on whose wedding it was. If it was a family member or close friend, I would just take the day off. If it was someone that I am not really close with but still keep it touch with...I would probably miss the church and go to the cocktail hour. It's fine, though. People who you want to be at the church, will be there. People who you are not close with, will meet you at the cocktail hour. Although I know I would want everyone to be at the church, you will not be able to talk to them anyway. I would try to go with the latest time possible so anyone who would like to come to the church and not take off from work, can still do that.

Hi,
I am a Friday Giorgio's bride too! We have a 6:30 CH start and our ceremony is at 4:30.
Most of our guests are OOT ppl so they will have to take off work anyway, so I'm not sure how much help I am. I think I would push it a little later though, IMO. I was originally gonna have a 5:00 pm ceremony but my mom and FH said we should do 4:30 so maybe we can make some of our CH.
ETA I'm shocked a bunch of ppl voted they wouldn't go to a Friday wedding at all!

First, I would totally go to a Friday wedding. Used to be a middle school teacher and I would never go right from school but would either just go to CH or take day off if it was someone close. . it would be hard to just leave early from school. . now at my job I would tho. . so I would do it as late as made sense and just know people who love you will come. . and the others. . save some $$$$$

if it was me, i'd either leave early from work or take the day off - but that's just me. you're talking a 1/2 hour difference..so honestly the people who are going to come will come, and the ones who won't will not - either way! My ceremony was at 5:00 on a friday and was packed out...i have a friend who's wedding was on a friday at 3:00 and was packed out...then my cousin who also had an afternoon cer. on a friday had a pretty empty church..so it really differs! I wouldn't drive urself nuts over it because it's something u can't really control... i will say that the later the better, but u also want to enjoy the time gap to take photos so just be careful...

As others said, i really think it depends on whose wedding it is. I went to a Friday wedding of a family friend a few months ago. Her ceremony was at 4pm and the cocktail hour was a bit out east, starting at 7pm. Although i know her, i am not close w/ her, so i left work an hour early (around 4:30), went home, got ready, and made sure i made it to the CH hour on time.
However, if it was a family member or close friend, i would make sure i took the day off or at least a half day to attend the ceremony.

I got married at 3:30pm on a Friday. It was a ceremony only which ended about 4pm. Our cocktail reception started at 7:30pm. The ceremony was in Queens and the reception in Nassau. Quite a few of my guests were teachers.
Some guests that came to the ceremony went home after to change and than went to the reception. Another bunch of guests came to the ceremony, drove to the hotel to change and than went to the reception. Some left work early, others didn't. We had a nice turnout at the ceremony but not everyone who was at the reception was at the ceremony.
Honestly, hold the ceremony at whatever time you would like. Everyone else will figure their schedules out around your timeframe.

Thanks everyone! I know I should just do whatever works best for us and a 1/2 hour is a 1/2 hour no matter how you cut it ... I just figured if it could help out the guests I would want to do it. Thank you again!!
