As a member of the bridal party....

If you were, what would you hope to receive as a gift? (what would you think was thoughtful & generous)

What would you hope NOT to receive? (usefullness, price, quality (costume jewelry OK?) etc...)

Maids of Honor - same questions....

Please - if you have any examples of gifts you didn't like or gifts you LOVED..please post!

Re: As a member of the bridal party....

i have been in several bridal parties, and i have to say one of my friends got us fabulous gift(s): pink zip hoodie with Bridesmaid written on the back in script, box full of henri bendel make-up, jewelry bags and travel bags, and another box full of Kiel's creams. they were all things we could really use:)

in all the other parties i've gotten either jewelry to go with the dress or a purse to match the dress filled with things we'd need for that day.

personally i'd love anything plain enough to wear in every day life, and REAL. i'd rather have something real, like silver even if it's small. just me though...and i like everything i've gotten...this is just what i'd prefer.

I'm getting my girls pearl and diamond necklaces set in white gold....something that they can wear that day, and any day therefater. I'm NOT a big fan of fake jewelry (never wear it, and wouldn't even wear it for someone's wedding) so I would never give that to my girls. Good gifts are ones that aren't solely useful for the wedding.

i agree with the other girls... i'm a pretty practical person... so i like the idea of thigns they'll use after the wedding... nice bags, lotions, makeup... or REAL jewelry... i'd rather get one good peice of real jewlery than a whole set of fake jewelry- - i don't have anything against fake jewelry at all- i just think if it was a peice of good jewelry, i would wear it after the wedding....
i've only been in one BP and the bride gave us an engraved photo album from things remembered... it was nice and useful for all the pics i took at her wedding...
i'm getting my girls a sterling silver daisy pendant necklace- we're doing a daisy theme and all the girls will be carrying daisies in the wedding, so i thought it would be a cool way for them to look back and remember hte wedding i also bought unfinished wood jewelry boxes from AC Moore that i stained and will put the necklace in

Re: As a member of the bridal party....

The gifts I got from the 2 weddings i was in (as MOH and BM) I have never used.
When I was MOH, I got a basket of bath supplies and a robe with my name embroidered on it. Some girls may have loved it, but it's nothing I would, or do, use.
As BM, I received jewelry for the day, and while it was pretty, I would never wear outside of a wedding. JMO
For my girls, I am getting them cashmere sweaters (cardigans) 2 pink and 2 green with their first inital embroidered in the oposite color. I would love this gift and I am only having 4 girls, so even though it probably going to be expensive, they have been my best friends since high schoool (9 years ago) and my MOH is my BF since kindergarten.
I hope this helps answer your question.

I got a robe that I love, with my initial on it. A friend of mine got a wrap around towel with her initial on it - also very cute, loved it. And, I'm thinking about getting my girls leather jewelry rolls from Red Envelope and their jewelry for the day. Hope that helps!

I don't think I have ever gotten anything that I have used, mainly just jewelry for day of or engraved trinket boxes!

What are your opinions of getting a Swarovski necklace?

I agree. Also look at the age of your girls, I'm over 30 so while a hoodie would be cute but if it said Bridesmaid on it - I wouldn't really ever wear it again.

I don't think you can ever go wrong with jewelry - I gave my BP white gold diamond necklaces and the MOH got matching earrings too

I've almost always gotten jewelry to wear the day of the wedding, and for the most part it wasn't my taste, and I never wore it again.

For one of my cousin's weddings, she gave us a spa day, the day before the wedding- mani/pedi, facial and massage. And then she covered the cost of everyone getting thier hair done. That was great, even though it wasn't tangible.

I agree with Donna, that it really depends on the age of the bridal party.

I have gotten 2 silver Tiffany bracelets which I wear all the time, one every day, the other when I am dressed up.

I have also gotten gold huggy earrings which I don't wear as much b/c I have been wearing a lot of silver lately.

I got costume jewelry to wear day of and have never worn again, don't even know if I still have it.

I am getting my girls a sterling silver initial necklace that comes with a box. A pocketbook from Lands End, Slippers and Pashmina for day of that they can use after.
