would Friday of a holiday weekend (Mem Day, Labor Day, 4th of July) be more 'bothersome' (interfere with plans, heavier traffic, etc.) than a different Friday during the summer?

Personally, it wouldn't bother me, if I want to go to a wedding, I will attend it reguardless of the date.

I have to agree with Stavia. Although, I do think that there will be traffic on any Friday in the summer. people should be aware of that though and plan for it. I hope, since my wedding is also on a Friday but in July. Don't worry, the people who want to be there will come no matter what!

Re: As a Wedding Guest...
I don't think it's bothersome, but many people anticipate planning their vacations around holiday weekends - especially in the summer. Personally, I would attend either way, but I would much prefer a 'regular' weekend.
traffic on friday summer nights can be pretty bad going to LI...and on holiday weekends...autrocious!!
just keep that in mind...if you are ok with people coming late (not realizing the traffic) and missing all or part of the ceremony...go for it...
after all the people who you love will be there no matter what...

I don't think so... ours is Labor Day weekend - Sunday though. We are actually expecting more people because everyone is off from work the next day. I think if people have enough notice then it doesn't matter.

Re: As a Wedding Guest...
I have to go against the grain here. IMO a regular Friday during the summer is better. Holiday weekends are just crazy with the traffic, and I think a Friday especially is not too good with everyone trying to get away, flooding the highways. It will make it pretty crazy/ stressful for your guests. I know I would be stressed about getting there on time & all that traffic would make me nuts. I would say if you want to do a holiday weekend, do a Sunday, not a Friday.

One thing I would suggest for any holiday weekend is mail out save the date cards at least a year in advance so people don't plan vacations at that time.

Re: As a Wedding Guest...
to be honest, I like my holiday weekend to go away or to do absolutely nothing, but if someone close to me chose a day like this, I'd of course go.
It does save a ton of money!

AT the same time that it saves the bride and groom a ton of money, remember that it will cost your out of town guests that need to fly in a lot more. Also, I agree with the post that said to send your save the dates out a year in advance. I would not just send them to out of town guests either. I would send them to everyone. I know personally that I start making my plans a little longer than a year in advance.

Re: As a Wedding Guest...
depends if it was a close friend or family of course I would go! someone I work w/ or an acquintance, then maybe not if I had plans to go away...............
if you have a A LOT of people you might be better of a different friday so you do not get a lot of No responses

You don't? Halls we visited when we were looking offered us great discounts for holiday weekends.
We were thinking about it then decided against it.

Re: As a Wedding Guest...
please don't jump all over me, but i find it incredibly rude when people schedule weddings over holiday weekends. these weekends are typically the only weekends FH and i can leave town and get away. personally, i would schedule it for a different day.

Re: As a Wedding Guest...
I would be fine with it.
The people who really want to go to your wedding will be there regardless of the date.
