It can be awkward when it's someone you were not that close to or in the case of family someone you don't even know...I was invited to a cousin's wedding last year and I had to ask my mom who she is??? I had never met her!

hate to say it, but I don't attend weddings of people I don't know well.... similarly, only really good friends and family are invited to ours! That's why our party will be under 70 people...

doesn't make sense to not go if your only reason is you're not intimate with the bride or groom...they invited you for a reason. if they took the effort to make out the invitation and pay for you, i think it's rude not to go.

I personally disagree....

sometimes, invitations are sent just to not be rude to people... For example, 4 people in an office in addition to the bride... 2 co-workers are close friends of the bride. She wants to invite the close friends, but then feels like she's being rude to the other 2 co-workers for 'exluding them'. Result: All co-workers receive invitations.

If I was the 'other co-worker', I'd politely decline the invitation. I'd appreciate the inclusiveness, but since I've never even gone to lunch with the bride and don't even know the name of her FH, I feel the invitation is out of place...
