asbestos-anyone have this in their older house?

i always find this site as such a good resource so i'm just putting this out there hoping there's someone who can offer information:
when we got our home inspected our inspector told us he thought there was asbestos around our pipes in the basement. now i've been told it's quite common in older houses and not to touch it or remove it. SO my question is does anyone have this at all too? have you had it removed properly or have it encased? just wondering. thanks for any info. you can offer!

WE DID!

Our house was built in 1931, and was NEVER remodeled!

We had asbestos in our basement (around all the pipes obviously),
all the paint had lead...
what else.....

We had the asbestos removed by someone my DH knows,
and our entire house was gutted, so no more lead paint.

We don't have asbestos inside the house, but we are in the process of getting permits for a dormer and the inspection showed there is asbestos in the roofing shingles. 'Supposedly' it is a small amount so we should be able to remove it as a normal roof. Our house was built in 1930, they say all older houses have some asbestos, its only dangerous if you try to remove it yourself and get the dust all over and breathe it in

Thank you so much for your responses- we are going to look into getting it removed carefully. just seems like too much of it to just leave it there! thanks again!
