Re: Asian Brides~Tea Ceremony
I'm in the same predicament. My FH is chinese and I'm Korean. I wanted to fuse our two cultures together. So for our rehersal dinner we are probably going to have a tea ceremony of some sorts. We are planning to have it at a chinese restaurant (probably in Flushing) and invite only immediate family. I believe the old school way is to pour the tea to each family member and you/husbad will serve the tea to them out of respect. I believe now the restaurants already have it poured into the cups so all you have to do is hand it to them. Easy as that. Both families usually give the bride tons of jewelry and adorn it on her to show her her worth when given to the groom's family (we not cheap you know!). The dinner is banquet style with 12 family style dishes. Dinners can get expensive depending on what you order.
My wedding is in August so I still have time to reserve the tables (I'm planning to have it in a private room with 4 tables). I tried asking if I can hold a date in the beginning of August and they laughed at me cause I am waaaaaaaaayyyyy too early. Hope that helps. FM me if you need more info.

Re: Asian Brides~Tea Ceremony
Hi ladies,
I hope this is helpful but don't take what I'm about to say 100%.
tea ceremony- the person pouring the tea should be a woman with good luck meaning woman with children particularly at least one son.
kneel on pillows, preferably red or gold, usually red.
to married elders.
if you want to do it on wedding day, and don't plan to do it during reception, i think it's best to have the ceremony if you have one in the afternoon.
usually, chinese ppl do it immediately after the groom picks up the bride in traditional gown at the bride's house then straight to groom's house and then change to white dress at groom's home or church..
on another day, usually look for an auspicuous date..
