Asking Bridesmaids...

I am getting married in July 2004. I have already asked my MOH, and 2 bridesmaids to be in my party. I would be cool with just 3, however my FH will most likely have more...and I think I like things to be even I have asked the girls not to mention that I asked them just yet to some of my other friends because if I do need to ask additional girls to be the wedding, I don't want them to feel as if I just need them to fill a dress... Is it ok to ask BM's at different times? My FH has not asked anyone yet, and does not plan on doing so for several months. He is actually the one stressing over his GM's!

I was asked 'late' once, and the bride told me that she thought of having a small bridal party at first, but then they decided to have a large one and would be honored if I would be in it! I didn't take offense at all.....I think that if someone takes offense or thinks that they are 'just filling a dress' then perhaps they shouldn't be in your bridal party at all!
