Re: Asking father for hand in marriage

ha yeah well I'm close to my mom and she's become a complete nut job herself reliving her wedding dreams through me (i love her, but it's completely overwhelming at times where I wonder why we didn't just elope :p)

I'm sure your dad will get over it. If it doesn't bother you, then that's all that matters.

I feel the exact same way with my mom!!! It's crazy. She's def. reliving her wedding dreams through me.
I think to myself too, why didn't I just elope or have something really small? lol

I can feel you on this one. I am not close with my father either. So it never really crossed my mind for FH to ask him for my hand in marriage because he was never around when I was growing up. FH did however ask my mom. He is very close to her and wanted her blessing.

I think it is a personal preference if a man wants to ask permission. some like the tradition and see it as a sign of respect, but honestly if someone isn't in your life as much as the next do they deserve that respect?! NAHHH!!!

Don't let it get YOU down.

He will get over it. That is an old fashioned marriage piece, and although it would have been nice, it just did not happen.

It's YOUR DAY. Remind yourself of that and enjoy!

Sorry to hear that!!! Your dad will definently get over it. Is he going to be the one walking you down the aisle?? I'm sure if he does he will forget the whole asking for your hand in marriage.

You will get a kick out of this! When I told my mom I was engaged the first question she asked was with who. FH and I have already been living together for 3 and a half years! She thought we were platonic friends living in a one bedroom apartment and that he slept on the couch. So she was livid that he didn't go up to her and tell her his intentions. She's still kind of upset about and is not 100% sure this wedding is really happening. Talk about denial.
Then she was mad that FH didn't ask my dad who she knows is not part our lives anymore. She is way too traditional for me to handle.

Soon he will get over the hurt and just be happy for you.
