The ban on assault weapons has evaporated .. President Bush had said he was going to sign an extension on this ban .. however .. tonight .. the ban is gone with the wind.
Sure, we have the right to bare arms .. but I'm sure when that was written .. they didn't intend for that to mean ASSAULT WEAPONS!!!

At least in NY there is a state law banning them. I think other states have state laws too.
I agree, when the founding fathers said we had a right to bear arms, it was because another country had owned us and told us we couldn't. I'm sorry but unless you work for the FBI or some law enforcement orgaization where those weapons are needed, or for the armed forces where they may be needed, you don't need an assault weapon.

Okay ... I'm having trouble with this today .. first of all .. people are saying with the ban lifted .. it won't make a difference one way or the other .. okay .. so with that line of logic .. let's just lift all speed limits .. because everyone speeds anyway. And that's great .. some states had the sense to have their own ban .. but there should be a FEDERAL BAN.
Second .. I heard this story on the news .. but of course, they didn't go into detail .. what they could do was show John Kerry holding a rifle and say how he enjoys hunting.
EXCUSE ME .. but hunting with a licensed weapon is much different than allowing a nationwide ban to evaporate on assault weapons.
And I find it mind-boggling that I can not find a story on this on any of the major news websites .. like CNN .. MSNBC .. or maybe I'm just missing something .. but to me ..
THIS IS VERY TROUBLING & DISTURBING!!
President Bush had 4 YEARS to make sure this ban would not expire .. 4 YEARS .. and it was no surprise that it was going to end .. now, I know .. there's been a lot going on during his time in office .. but I would think with everything going on in the world today .. this would be a ban you would not want to expire .. no matter how much you thought it might not change anything .. it's the kind of ban you have just to have for the sake of having it .. just like we have speed limits .. etc.

There are too many people against this ban for one of the candidates (either Bush or Kerry) to even touch this subject.
Don't expect anything to be done about this till after the election.

The fact is .. President Bush said he was going to sign an extension .. but how convenient that this never was pushed through for him to even have the opportunity to sign it.
Also, now that Bush has let this ban expire .. what kind of confidence can anyone have in him to have a new ban installed????? Especially after he said he would sign an extension .. which he never pushed for.
