Astoria Girls... bakery related (cross post from 09)
I know there are a lot of girls on these boards from Astoria and I have a question. I work at a middle school in Astoria and I wanted to pick up good pastries after school tomorrow for the holidays. Where is the best Italian bakery in Astoria? Thanks in advance if you can help me!

where is the school so i can recommend something close to you. I LOVE martha's country bakery, they have amazing cupcakes and other stuff too. This is on ditmars and 37th street
Closer to 30th avenue there is Terrizzi's, they have awesome stuff
then there is Laguli's that is on ditmars by 29th street

You should try Athens Cafe on 30th ave and 32nd street they hired a new pastry chef and their desserts are off the hook, they have greek pastries as well as great fruit tarts, cheese cakes, flan and other delicious sweets yummm.

MARTHAS is fantastic for cupcakes and chocolate cakes. La Guli has amazing mini and full size cheese cakes and pies.
Another option is Artopolis- it's on 31st street under the train station between 23rd and 24th ave. It's inside a complex on the ground floor. They are Greek and have won tons of accolades.

Thanks a lot girls! I think I'm going to try Laguli's for Christmas Eve stuff and Artopolis for Christmas day... they'll last in my fridge until then, right?

Hands down best Italian bakery is La Guli on Ditmars. If you're looking for Italian pastries and cookies and....well Italian bakery stuff specifically, there is no comparison. There's a couple of other italian bakeries on Ditmars and Terrizzi on 30th but La Guli blows them both out of the water.

The best bread in astoria is on 31st and broadway, its right on the corner, its called Parisi. The one on 45th street and ditmars isnt that bad either but Parisi has been around FOREVER and really known for their bread well thats mostly all they have.

hahah that is great. I always preferred Terrizzi's, haven't gone in a little over a year but growing up i always went there. laguli's has gotten a bit better, there were slacking for a little bit in my opinion but it hasnt gotten alot better the past few years and is real good now and back on track like they were years ago. I just know ppl who worked there and bc of that well dont go as often lol

Yes, they were slacking for awhile. It is now owned again by the original owners, the daughter bought the place back, thank God!
