Astoria - Rehearsal Dinner

Any ideas for a rehearsal dinner location in Astoria that is moderately priced and offers inexpensive drinks?

Mojave is a great restaurant. You can also try 718, it's near Mojave and is very good and has a really nice bar.

Does Mojave work for a group of 30-35?

It's large enough but it gets busy on Fri/Sat. Give them a call, the manager-Aldo is really accomodating.

As far as drinks, see if they can offer discounted pitchers of Sangria (amazing!). I can see them discounting those if you are hosting that many people. If you limit the menu to salads and their quesadillas-steak/chicken/veggie (really good and great presentation) and maybe the fondue dessert, you'll get a great value!

I don't work for Mojave Just a regular!

I am having my shower at Lincontro on sunday-
Have had my sons christening there as well..
HIGHLY recommend it..

Only problem is- i believe they only have wine for liquor.

My sister bartends at Grand Cafe and i KNOW they have a very intimate private room in the back that would accomodate you..

yeah L'incontro only serves wine but food is amazing

I had my RD at the waterfront crabhouse in LIC so was 5-10 mins from church in astoria

I love 718 like someone suggested but its small and not sure if they can do it, still call and ask

Ammos-they have several menu options to choose from so you can pick something in your budget. Problem is that they charge ALOT for drinks, it was $10 per hour per person unless you do wine and beer. For 30 ppl though wont be as bad, i had looked into it for e-party and for 150 it was alot just for the drinks

Ponticello-they def do have a private room and food is very good

Piccolo Venezia

Mezzo Mezzo

Portobello also has a private room, they dont serve alcohol either though i think.

Island-the food is good, i had my shower there

Punta Dura

Cavo is nice too, great atmosphere which im sure you know about the place. I know somebody who checked it out to do something similar and said it was pricey, this is what i was told but you can check it out yourself.

Thanks Denise. Three you mentioned are actually owned by Croatians - Punta Dura, Ponticello and Piccolo Venezia. I emailed Mezzo Mezzo for a quote. Does anyone know if Manetta's in LIC is big enough? I heard good things but have never been there. FH is asking his parents to host [we are doing the whole wedding and my mom and dad are doing a shower] and b/c they did not give us a budget (we asked three times b/c it makes things easier for us) and just asked us to keep it 'moderate' it is so hard. I don't know what 'moderate' is :(

I know for dinner it has Mahattan prices, but they should have mix drinks and beer, b/c they do have a bar. Also Forno Italia is nice and the food is great but they dont have a party room but I doubt you need a separate room if it is like on a Thursday night. I priced Ponticello and for me the price was expensive and no food, it was like $50pp without drinks

I always joke with FH and say that we will have it a Rhudar in the basement.

Why not Istria Club the room upstairs is really nice

yeah its funny bc i was going to say Punta Dura bc i know the owner is croatian and big with the croatian community. ANd yeah piccolo is too didnt know ponticello is either, thats good then.

Im not sure if Manetta's does private parties but i think they might not sure sorry.

I don't mind Istria Club and it would be cheaper - I just an not sure how FILs feels about a Croatian place - I really wish they were helping plan but they don't seem interested. I feel like Fh's family complains a lot when dining out about food, etc. so it just makes me nervous tat i will deal with unwanted drama.

i didnt like mojave either, and i like that type of food. Maybe it was an off day for them when i went but i had the shrimp and let me say i never understood when ppl complained about shrimp tasting fishy, never happened to me and i always said WELL ITS SEAFOOD DUH!!!! but this was just real fishy and all i could taste, i couldnt even finish it. Then had main entree with dipping sauces on the side, the sauces were just too heavy and one had a weird taste too and i ended up getting real sick from the food, was sick until the next day. Again, not sure if it was an off day but somebody else told me the same and said hey go just for the drinks now.

I think it is way to dark in there for a RD, and i feel there is like nothing on the menu.

Ponticello has beer and wine, separate room and the food is good. I love Forno Italia but they dont have like a separate room but they do have parties and RD all the time.

Sapori D' Ischia in Woodside by Sports Authority the food is really good and they do have full bar. They are like l'Incontro prob around the same prices.

I know you are at MPB what about Giardino's in Douglaston its like 15 min away and they food is great, it is owned by the same person who owns Russo on the Bay. Def very reasonable with price.

I read online great reviews for Vesta(I have no idea where it is)
vesta

My FH and I always have that argument it is too Croatian or Italian!!
