at my engagement party...

which is TOMORROW are we supposed to open our gifts in front of everyone? i'd rather not but some ppl might think its rude...

no. the only time during wedding planning thats its ok to open gifts in front of your guests is at your shower.

Mine is August 2nd. I don't plan on doing that!!! I hate opening gifts in front of everyone. I don't think anyone expects it either, and as a guest they don't want to sit through you opening tons of gifts.

I'd say definitely no. Leave that for the Bridal Shower (unless you want to have one of those 'please wrap all of my presents in cellophane so I don't have to open them' showers - in which case you'll never have to open a present in front of everyone!)

We didn't open them until after the party (which was 6/27/09). However, one guest did bring us something special that she asked us to open - so we went in a side room to do that.

We didn't. We opened them afterwards with the Bridal Party. Peer pressure!

Tomorrow is my shower and everyone threw a fit that I said I don't want to open gifts but I have my reasons. I don't care if it's 'expected' I wish I would have known about the cellophane thing before, that would have been helpful.
