during your church ceremony you and your Fh light it. Which reminds me i need to get it. Its part of your ceremony

It is used during the ceremony, you and your FH take each of the tapered candles and use them to light the one big candle at the same time. It's a symbol of , you guessed it, 'unity'! :)

I don't know if it holds any religious significance, but i am doing it b/c i like it :)

You dont need a unity candle, but many people include it as part of their cermony...I know people who did a sandbottle, they got two different color sands and they poured them into another glass vase...it represent the same thing as the candle

during the ceremony the two moms light the pillar candles then you and your FH light the big candle representing your comming together. You don have to do it if you dont want to.

you do not need one but a symbol of you and FH and families becoming one

We're doing a toast w/ wine and then a drink from same cup instead of unity candle during ceremony

Hi its totally optional. We skipped it altogether, just personal preference!

it's not actually a part of the ceremony and has no religious significance, it's just personal preference - i think its a nice touch to represent the two families coming together

Another option is the sand ceremony.

We are not doing the unity candle, since it does not have a religious significance. It is really optional. It is a nice gesture and some like it. We decided to ask for the blessing of the Virgin Mary. After our vows (but still part of ceremony), we are going to walk over to the Virgin Mary's statue while the chorus sings Ave Maria and present the Virgin Mary with a bouquet of flowers. To us, the blessing of the Virgin Mary is more important than the unity candel. However, I believe the unity candle is a nice gesture....it is just not for us

yes sorry i mean when it is used, its used as part of the ceremony...not something that you HAVE to do. Some do a sand ceremony instead or neither

Thanks Ladies! I love the blessing of the Virgin Mary idea, its funtn because my grandmother was just telling me a story about she did the same thing when she was married, in 1955! So i guess there can be some tradition there for sure
