Do you ever feel like you are being unhealthy by doing the atkins diet? I have had two encounters lately- both with people in the health field- once at the vitamin store and once at Ruby Tuesday's. I was looking at atkins products and a shopper was near me looking at somethin else. He said 'I am trainer and the Atkins diet is the worst diet out there- people have gotten so sick- be careful!!' Then at Ruby Tuesdays, My friend and I were up at the salad bar talking about atkins as I as making my salad and the woman next to me said 'I hate to be nosey, but I am in the health field and The atkins diet is the most unhealthy diet- it made my brother so sick that his liver started failing-be careful!'
This kind of makes me second guess this diet- any thoughts girls?

I look at it this way... just because you are doing Atkins doesn't mean you have unlimited license to eat bacon, eggs and butter.... people who think that are misinformed and are passing judgment on something they know nothing about.
I do not see how eating chicken, fish, red meat and veggies is a bad diet???? So we are leaving out sugar and white flour- I don't think anyone can contend that those two things are necessary for the human body to function. We are also eating healthy fruits and will eventually eat limited amounts of whole grain once we lose the weight.
I don't let it bother me- many studies have been done that show the efficacy of this way of eating AND the health benefits of it... (lower cholesteral, triglycerides, etc). I think people are just stuck believing the food pyramid that was invented by the government all those years ago (which was created with NO SCIENCE in mind).
I wouldn't worry about it- people are always going to think steak with butter with unlimited cheese on top when you say Atkins- but we know those people are misinformed.

My FMIL is a triage nurse and she is extremely knowledgeable in the medical field. She has done low-carb for 1 1/2 years and highly recommends it.
Also, my DR said it is was okay! Just not to limit veggies too much.
A lot of these people are remembering rumors from 20 years ago!
