ATT: OUT OF STATE BRIDES!!!!

How do you go about getting your marriage license/certificate?

Can you get married in NY if you live out of state? ( i hope so, because we're having the wedding in 50 days!!!!)

Do we both have to go to the office, IN PERSON and TOGETHER???

TIA
Crystal

You both have to go to get a marriage license. It is good for 60 days and you can't use it for 24 hours. The town hall I went to required an original birth certificate and photo id.

How long does it take for them to get it to you?

Hi Crystal,

You and your FH both have to be there in person. If you go to SOuthampton Town hall, you only need your birth certificates and licenses. IT did not take long at all. They will give you the form, you will have your witnesses (MOH and BM) sign it in the presence of your Officiant, and your officiant will also sign it, and (in my case) send it to the state. You will get your actual certificate in 2-3 weeks in the mail.

Do you mean you have 60 days between when you sign the license and when you actually get married? This might be a stupid question, but what makes marriage 'official'? Is it the license or the vows or what?

After 24hrs of issue you can get married but no longer than 60 days. The vows make you married not the license. When you get the Certicate of Marriage back from the clerk that your clergy turns in that the marriage was performed and witnessed. That means the marriage is legal with the state.
