Attended a wedding at The Coral House last night...
The cocktail hour food was yummy...a big assortment and lots of it. An incident occured though, which I think needs to be mentioned, but I dont want to offend anyone. My FH was eating a piece of broccoli, when all of a sudden he pulls on this squiggly wire from his mouth and says 'I guess this wasn't supposed to be there'. NOW - I'm not saying that this is acceptable, but I'm sure it's not the first time or the only catering hall to have something like that happen. We debated whether or not to say something to the maitre'd, but didn't in fear of upsetting our bride/groom friends...I'm not sure what he could have done anyway (its not like we would have gotten a free meal or anything)...but overall the food at cocktail hour was very good and plentiful.
The dinner was the same...the food was good and lots of it. I got the chicken with mustard sauce, and enjoyed it. My friend got the salmon, and also like it. I dont know about the other meals.
The couple used Tommy Tunes DJ. It's hard for me to say exactly how good they were, because I think the Bride and Groom requested a lot of older stuff because of the guest population. They played the newer stuff towards the end of the night. I'm not a big dancer (or should I say my FH isn't one), so I'm not the best judge. But I can say the MC was great - not annoying or pushy - and did a good job at keeping people on the dance floor. It was packed all night...and that's what matters most.
I was curious if we were going to see a ton of brides there, because I knew around 3 or 4 weddings were going on. To be honest with you, I didn't see ANY of them until the end of the night when parties were wrapping up. Other than that, the bathrooms were empty - never a problem. And if you saw other guests in there it didn't matter - I had no idea who was who anyway.
As for the smell of smoke as reported in other posts...honestly, I'm a smoker and not sensitive to it. But, this was the first catering hall I've been to in a long time where you could smoke in the cocktail hour room and the reception room.
Overall, we had a good time. I think the Coral House was good, and would enjoy another wedding there, despite the little cocktail hour food incident. I believe that could happen anywhere...
Good luck to those who chose the Coral House. I really dont think you have any worries - the bride and groom seemed to have a perfect reception!

Oh nice to hear you had a good time since I am also using the Coral House. Sorry to hear about the incident with the food though. I do hope it doesn't happen again. I know when there is a mass preparation of food these things happen but still I don't want people choking on things at the wedding.
Did they use the big room. That is the one I am using. I am trying to use the roof for the cocktail hour.
Thanks for the post on your night

cocktail hour on the roof
Hi I just wanted to comment on the cocktail hour on the roof. I did go to a wedding in October where they had this and I should warn you more than half the guests took their food and went inside. I see you are getting married in July so you might not have to worry about the weather but it can always be a little tricky.

Marnles,
I am glad to hear that the Coral House was good despite that one thing...as far as I am concerned it could have happened anywhere. How was the service and the rest of the courses (pasta, salad and the wedding cake). I am so excited!!!

Thanks Marnles
I am glad you posted your experience...including the wire problem. I wish you would have said something to the maitre d' in private so that they know that it happened and could be careful not to have a repeat.

Answers... and question for DianaL
dgtlsunshine-
Yes they used the big room (it seemed big to me anyway)- they had about 300 people I think, so I'm assuming it was the big room. No problem with space - the dance floor is big!
Jen2704-
I agree with you - I think it could have happened anywhere. As for the other courses, I had the salad and the pasta and they were both yummy. Actually the service was excellent - our waiter was on top of things, and one of the waiters at a different table was fun. Unfortunately, I was a little too 'tipsy' by the time the wedding cake came out, so I didn't eat any...sorry! I think you're going to have a great time...
DianaL-
I understand what you're saying about talking to the Maitre'D, that's why we were torn about it. Do you think I should call them?

Marnles,
One last thing...did the couple have a full venetian hour or a modified one (small one basically)...it comes with the package when you book (the modified)...how was the presentation and did a lot of people eat the goodies?
thanks :) Jen

Answer from DianaL
Hi Marnles...I guess you could, saying you didn't want the bride and groom to know, but wanted them to be aware.

Jen2704...
I saw plates of pastries placed on the table before the wedding cake was passed out. I did not eat any of them, but some people did. I guess this was the modified? I thought it was very nice. Best of luck!

Actually it wasn't the modified then...they were supposed to pull two carts onto to the dance floor with goodies...I guess the couple didn't want it......thanks though Marnles!!

All Coral House Brides - a follow-up for you...
Hi-
Just wanted to let you all know that I called the Coral House this morning. I spoke with one of the managers (Linda I believe her name was) and explained about what my FH found in his broccoli. She was very nice about it and promised to speak with the kitchen staff regarding the matter. So all is taken care of, and I'm SURE they are going to be very careful. The best of luck to you all - I know it will be great!!

Re: cocktail hour on the roof
I went to a wedding at CH in April and the service was excellent-- one problem though-- the waiter went up to another girl at our table and said 'I hope you all will take care of me at the end of the night.' We were so annoyed to be asked for a tip.
