When we got engaged, I knew I didnt want a bridal party of any more than a MOH & BM. Especially, when sister in laws names got involved ('if you're having Mary, you have to have Sue. If you have Sue, you have to have Jane.'). Whew! If I chose my bridal party purely to oblige people I knew it wasn't me anymore. We decided to have our niece & nephews in it too and they are 5 thru 16 years old - all boys except for the oldest. We love them so much and I couldnt be happier with them all standing up for us. I am constantly reflecting on how pleased I am with the choices we made - including omitting our 2 youngest niece & nephew, who are each 2 years old. (Adorable but again, too much) As with most things, I've been trying to keep it true to what my fiance and I want without offending people. Sometimes, it's not easy but that's true of life too. Good luck to all, I feel for anyone who is getting undue aggravation from their attendants.

Attendents?!?!?!?!?
It is so acceptable to have an assymetrical wedding party these days. Maybe your Mom doesn't realize that is commonplace? Tell her you don't want to 'fill' a place in your wedding party and prefer to keep it to those you truly want in attendance for you. Hopefully , she will ease up on the pressure
I can't imagine anyone who isn't among your nearest and dearest getting to excited about being pulled into the planning or shelling out all the money for the dress, travel, etc.
