Re: Attire question!!!???!!!
I dunno. Business Casual is what I see so often for Industry stuff.. means leave the glitz at home, but dress well (no jeans)
There was another one.. Yatch or something Causal, meant Polo shirts and slacks. But that was only at our office in the Summer on Fridays.
There's always Semi-Formal as well
Semi-Formal/Black tie optional.

I would omit putting anything - I think some people might read semi formal as more dressed than I think you would seem to like - You don't have to put any dress on an invitation if you do not wish

I agree with Rob Luvs Me...don't put anything on it. I would only do that if you're having a Black Tie wedding or a REALLY casual one.

Thanks girls.. Why didn't I think of that.. NOTHING.. If we do write anything I think we'll do Black tie optional, then those with tuxedos can get use out of them..

Re: Attire question!!!???!!!
This is just my opinion, but I would think that putting nothing might make things a bit confusing for the guests. They will probably start asking what they should where (which you may or may not want). I know for me I usually have a hard time figuring out what to wear if the invitation says nothing . . . from a guests POV I would want to know how to dress. JMO

Black tie optional tends to imply 'You don't have to but you could/should.' I think you could write 'Informal wedding' as someone suggested, or don't write anything. Even if it's a Saturday night, no one usually gets overly dressy unless you write 'Black tie'.

Re: Attire question!!!???!!!
I agree, I wouldnt specify. Probably no one will wear a tux if you say nothing but most people dress appropriately in a suit, dress, etc...
We are not having a black tie wedding and I wont even be mentioning attire on the invite.
ETA: I dont think it would be confusing for guests. When I get a wedding invitation that doesnt say black tie, I either get a nice new dress or something nice I already have (and I base my decision on the time of day) If its a night wedding my FI wears a suit, if a day then nice pants a shirt and tie.

I think if most of your guests are from LI then they are familiar with the wedding attire and the various halls. Most people will dress for the venue.

That's funny!
But I agree with Juliet, that most people know how to dress appropriately for a wedding.

I agree that you shouldn't write anything at all. Most invitations I've received for weddings haven't said anything either way.
But, if you want to put something you might want to consider 'festive attire' which implies cocktail dresses

Re: Attire question!!!???!!!
from my understanding black tie means tux for all men. does your fiance mean he would still like everyone in a tie and jacket? I would just put nothing for attire if that is the case. My parents usually go with the idea that nothing on the invite means tie/jacket for the gentlemen. They also look at the name of the place. If it is a formal catering hall they make their own determination that my father should wear a tie. People do the same like you do when you go out to dinner. If you are going to OUtback, you wear jeans or casual clothes. IF you are going to a formal manhattan restaurant, you dress appropriately.
