ATTN book clubbers, 2nd discussion

Today is our discussion (chap 9-16) for the book The Next Thing on my List. I know a majority of us are finished, is there anyone who isn't complete?
If we are all complete, lets do our final discussion today. If you aren't finished, please speak up. I don't want to exclude anyone or rush anyone. I'm only suggesting our final discussion be bumped up bc some book clubbers have been finished for quite a while and I don't want anyone to lose interest.
I also wanted to poll the choices for our next book, there are a bunch of girls interested in joining us for book #2.check the boards.

As for the discussion,
the part in chapter 20 with the massage and the hard on-so freakin funny!!

Here are some questions from the readers group guide thought were interesting.

1. At Sebastian sparty, guests who learn about the list assume Marissa must have been unhappy if she was fat-were they being 'sizeist' as one woman put it or is it impossible to be overweight and happy in this society?

2. What dream of yours do you fear might never happen if you died suddenly?

1. I think it's possible to be overweight and happy in society so I think the person was being 'siziest.' I think most people feel that due to magazines and tv people are always looking to be as skinny at the celebrities but I don't think that's true about all. Image doesn't create happiness.

2. If I were to die suddenly the dream I would fear that would not happen is having kids. That's my real calling...I can't wait to be a mother (of course not until after like 2 years of marriage).

Here are my thoughts:

1) I would have to say they were being “sizeist”. While there is so much pressure from society for women to be thin, I think a woman who is truly confident in herself would dismiss this as a foolish and unrealistic notion. I know it is a lot easier said than done but I do believe that there are overweight women out there who embrace and admire their figure (as they should!!).

2) My biggest fear would be to never have a family of my own! I want so much to have the wonderful husband, 2.5 children and the beautiful house with the white picket fence! I have wanted a family for as long as I can remember so that would be #1 on the list of things I must do before I die.

These are really good questions by the way..

1. Society puts so much pressure on us to be thin and gorgeous. As a young adult I was 20lbs heavier than I am now and I felt so out of place. Kids and adults are cruel. I'm by no means skinny, but I am thin and healthy-thats all I need.I wish things were different, we should encourage education in our young females, not just sexuality and poor body image. I cant think of one woman I know who doesn't want to shed a few extra pounds.
~Does anyone have a bucket list?
Basically a bucket list is a list of all the things you would like to do before you kick the bucket. The items don't have to be extraordinary, they can just be everyday things that you just don't get to do or don't have the courage to do. This book has encouraged me to start one. Whats on yours?

I do not have one but I started to think it would be a good idea.. There are so many things I want to do I would not even know where to begin!

One thing I would like to do is take a few self defense course.. I would also like to learn to cook REAL food and maybe take up scrap booking!
